BELFAST, Maine — Police arrested an armed man last week who allegedly was threatening a Spring Street woman who he claimed owed him money.
The woman called police at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, to report that Andrew Herrick Sr., 48, of Miller Street in Belfast was attempting to gain access to her home, according to Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department.
The responding officer saw a man yelling obscenities into a window that appeared to have been pushed up and away from the window frame, the chief said this week.
The officer told the man to turn around, and he complied. When police patted Herrick down for weapons, they found a set of brass knuckles and several knives, including a knife hidden in the clasp of a necklace he was wearing.
The woman told police that she knew Herrick, and when she heard him yelling, she locked herself into the bathroom and called 911.
“According to Herrick, he was simply going to collect $320 that he had loaned to the occupant of the home,” McFadden said. “When the officer asked what the money was for, Herrick told him it was for tobacco, rolling papers and rent.”
But the woman told police something different. She said that she did owe him money for morphine that he had sold her.
“Mr. Herrick denies ever selling his medication,” McFadden said.
Police arrested Herrick, charging him with burglary, terrorizing and carrying a concealed weapon. He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked.
“If it’s a drug situation, it makes it a little more serious than perhaps it would have been if it was really about cigarettes,” McFadden said.
The incident remains under investigation.

Why does it make it more serious if she owed him money for drugs rather than cigarettes? Is one or both going to be charged and that is why or is it just more likely that someone would get hurt in a drug situation? You never know with people some snap real easy over anything! 320$ is alot to let someone owe you especially for drugs lol!
I know this bum….amazing they didnt catch him with a sumari sword along with all those other knives ! He is really a piece of work. And I TOTALLY believe that the money WAS for drugs . And then to add insult to injury this clowns bail is only $500. Call Waldo county like I just did.
