SACO, Maine — A Saco man on probation after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident was arrested early Sunday morning for driving under the influence, according to police.
Saco authorities received a call from their counterparts in Biddeford that Jason Brooks, 30, had just driven away from a Biddeford bar around 1 a.m. and was possibly intoxicated, Saco Deputy Chief Jeffrey Holland said Tuesday.
Police located Brooks’ vehicle at the intersection of Elm and Lincoln streets, where he stared at officers while waiting to turn at a blinking red light, Holland said.
Police pulled Brooks over for a broken tail light and arrested him after he failed field sobriety tests, Holland said.
Brooks was charged with operating under the influence and booked into the York County Jail. A probation hold was put on Brooks, and he remained in jail on Tuesday.
Brooks was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident in 2008 after he struck and killed Deborah Archer, a 43-year-old mother of six, with his delivery van and drove off, according to Det. Bill Russell of the Berwick Police Department. Brooks pleaded guilty to that charge in 2009.
Keep him in jail for good.

“Alcohol, however, was not considered a factor. In his affidavit, Brooks reported that he had a severe pain in his head at the time of the accident. Jason Brooks pleaded guilty and was sentenced in May to two years behind bars.”
I am presuming he was sentenced in May 2009, which would have had him out (with good behavior) probably in late 2010, early 2011.
In the link to the original story, the police didn’t catch up to him until a week later. Too late for any tests to be done, sadly.
