Kevin Raye counts Olympia Snowe as one of the biggest influences in his political life. He first met the then mostly unknown Snowe as she got ready to run for the 2nd Congressional District seat Raye now seeks himself. She visited him in Eastport when he was 16 years old and he became her county chairman even though he was too young to vote. Later, after finishing high school and graduating from Bates College, Raye spent nearly 20 years working in Snowe’s office.

  1. I don’t believe that Bangor Daily’s love affair with Kevin will be enough to tip the scales. Issues and veteran’s will keep Mike in place.

    1. Because of the crazy antics of Lepage and the republicans failure to control the bullish antics of Lepage, I will not vote for any Republican. I am now an independent. No matter how well a republican appears to perform, no vote from me for any state Republican.

        1. If you’re a Marxist, socialism is the stage between capitalism and communism.  Otherwise, socialism is the belief that goods and services are to be produced and provided directly for and to people, based upon their needs.  Everyone would be equal and companies would no exist in a for-profit sense.  In other words, there would be no incentive to work harder or drive yourself to succeed because you’d always be taken care of, no matter what.

In other words, Capehart.I’m fairly certain I understand the meaning of socialist.  Perhaps I’m not the one in need of an education.  That aside, I’m not here to fight on the Internet.  I have to work.

        2. Just because someone uses the term “socialist” in a derogatory fashion doesn’t automatically mean they don’t know what they are talking about. Apparently all the educated “enlightened” people here pine for the thought of a new form of economics in this country but are too embarrassed to openly promote it for fear of failure. The only way Socialism will prevail in this country will be to institute it in a very sublime fashion. The average American would never stand for it.

  2. These are two quality candidates. Independents will probably control the outcome. Kevin’s connection to Governor LePage will help and hurt him at the polls. People will really wrestle with this one-many folks will decide in the booth.

  3. Having known Kevin pretty much all of my life this video
takes me back to earlier days. I find it to be an excellent recollection of the
events described. It is timely given that Kevin is running for office at the
time it is also 100% factual. It is refreshing to see news where one candidate
is not bashing another. I sadly no longer live in Maine but seeing the picture
of Kevin with his mother and Olympia on Stinson’s Wharf in Eastport bring back
so many memories. I don’t know Congressman Michaud but I do know Kevin. He is
honest and he is loyal, qualities rarely seen combined in politicians today.

  4. This to me is a pathetic attempt to cast himself as the succesor to Olimpia Snow. I recall vivadly Bill Cohen and Olimpia Snow going door to door in Piscatiquis County to talk issues and ask for the vote. That is a canditate, not the media savey let the money talk canditate

    1. Sorry you see it that way.  Knowing this man, I can tell you it is the man paying respect to his long time mentor.  He worked with Olympia for many years and they remain great friends.  Both are incredible examples of integrity.

  5. Just a matter of time before this great man is a Governor for the great State of Maine. Mr. LePage is getting it done, and Mr. Raye will continue his legacy…
