HOLDEN, Maine — A Dedham man who was out on bail on a domestic violence assault charge was arrested early Saturday for his third drunken driving offense in five years, Holden police Sgt. Gene Fizell said Monday.

Claustin Lawrence III, 25, was stopped by Officer Bruce Graybill at 12:15 a.m. and charged with felony operating under the influence due to prior convictions for drunken driving in 2007 and 2008, the sergeant said.

“His blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit in Maine,” Fizell said. “We also found Mr. Lawrence was out on bail for a domestic violence assault in Dedham, with one condition that he was not to possess or consume alcohol.”

Lawrence was charged with violating the conditions of his release for the alleged domestic assault offense in August, as well as possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and operating in violation of his conditional driver’s license.

He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where bail was set at $1,000 cash, a jail official said. Lawrence remained there on Tuesday. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. death penalty…….he will never do it again…….or we can wait until he kills an innocent family on their way home…….obviously this person will never learn.

    1. There are other ways to insure a sick person will not hurt others without killing them.  I admit, this guy has more problems than his drinking but killing him is not the solution.  Sounds kind of like Taliban justice to me.

      1. An electronic ankle bracelet could be suitable to ensure the person’s whereabouts and activity (the recipient can pay the costs).

  2. “Now you try that one more time Mister, and we’re going to really let you have it.”  Pick your judge for the quote – they are all spineless.

  3. This is why you keep your family off the roads after dark whenever  possible. Most of these guys still have it together before school gets out in the afternoon.

    1.  Because that doesn’t sound like a right or fair solution. How about the offensive people have their ID/Driver License/ Secret Food Stamp Cards/Library cards, cut  in half or a paper stamp shaped like Maine  punch out a corner of a license  and that would mean you can’t sell them booze.

  4. Bail is kind of low again. Drive drunk 3 times and violate bail conditions same bai $1,000 las aggravated robbery home invasion.

  5. Three strikes and you’re out. This man needs mandated treatment in a locked setting before he kills someone. And he needs legal consequences to be at least as serious as someone who commits a property crime.
