CLIFTON – Lorraine L. “Diddie” Hooper, 94, died Sept. 20, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Marshfield, a daughter of Charles O. and Carrie L. (Faulkingham) Hanscom.
Lorraine grew up in Marshfield and was a 1935 graduate of Machias High School. She married Milford F. Hooper Sr., Nov. 21, 1936, in Columbia Falls. Lorraine learned how to cook from her mother at the age of 9, and she went to work at Whiting Hotel at the age of 12. She was an amazing cook. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bingo, and was a great Scrabble player. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Rosalie Taylor and husband, Stuart, of Ellsworth and Arlene “Tink” Wing and husband, Randy, of Jefferson; beloved son, Milford “Bud” Hooper Jr. and wife, Pat, of Nocona, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and dear friends, Deeanne Judd and Frannie Hall of Eddington. She was predeceased by her parents; daughter, Alice Hackney and husband, Tommy, and their daughter, Stephanie; son, Charles D. Hooper; grandson, Scott C. Taylor; sisters, Sarah, Marian and Lillian; and brothers, Donald, Alan, Charles, Carl, Russell and John.
Friends may call 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Woodbine Cemetery with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating.
