SHERMAN – Vernald T. Stubbs, 87, a kind and gentle man left us Sept. 18, 2012. He was born Jan. 20, 1925, in Stacyville, the son of Vance and Minnie (Derosier) Stubbs.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the South Pacific as a storekeeper 3rd class aboard LSM 13 – nicknamed “Black Cat.” He was a member of St. Benedict’s Parish and Sherman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2299. He greatly enjoyed the many friendships he made at Jerry Pond Camps.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Freda (Hall) Stubbs of Sherman; a son, Kevin Stubbs of Weston and his children, Angela, Kelly and Wade; a daughter, Cheryle Joslyn and her husband, Dan, of Whitefield and their children, Brooke, Travis and Rae; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Connie Cannon.
Graveside memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Patten Cemetery with Deacon Al Burleigh officiating. A time of fellowship will be held immediately afterward at the Sherman VFW. For an online memory book and to leave condolences, please visit www.bowersfuneral.com.
