FRIENDSHIP, Maine — Police are investigating whether a body found at a residence in Friendship early Sunday was that of Brian Floyd, who escaped from Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren on Friday night.
According to a press release from the Department of Corrections, authorities received information that Floyd was at a residence in Friendship and that no one else was there with him. Upon arrival at the residence, the body of a deceased man was found.
“Preliminary reports indicate that it was the escapee however a conclusive identification will take several days,” reads the press release. “The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner.”
Judy Plummer, public affairs coordinator for the Department of Corrections, said Sunday that the body was visually identified as Floyd, but that further testing is needed to determine that conclusively. However, she said Floyd’s next-of-kin were notified about the discovery of the body. She said officers from the Department of Corrections and Maine State Police found the body.
Plummer said she did not know the address of the residence in Friendship or how Floyd knew about it.
Floyd, 21, is from the Belfast area. He started his sentence with the Department of Corrections in June for theft by unauthorized taking. He was due to be released on May 22, 2015, with no probation.
Floyd escaped the low-security Bolduc Correctional Facility at about 10 p.m. Friday night.

Quite a long sentance for what he did… No parole??? What did he steal?????
Many times they don’t want the restrictions of parole afterwards, so they elect to serve more time so they’re free when they get out. I have no idea how this is done, but I know it can be available.
Maine doesn’t have parole. You might be on probation in light of serving a full sentence, with the rest of your sentences hanging over your head if you mess up.
The article didn’t say “no PAROLE”, it said “no probation”. It simply means when he would have gotten out he wouldn’t have to serve probation.
It said parole earlier, they changed it….
Thanks for the update, Stevey
Good point. Thank you. A p;ositive instead of a negative, which is always assumed.
Really? He was convicted of 6 counts of theft, 2 counts of burglary, and assault how long should he have been sentenced to?
This article doesnt tell you what he did, usually they dont get a long enough sentence…
Department of Corrections does.

Wow, quite a busy little boy…
He should of got less time than the child molesting school teachers 18 months
not 3 years.
Maine doesn’t have a parole system. Prisoners earn time off their sentence for good behavior.
I was thinking the same thing ….. poor kid … people do a lot worse and serve no time …… where is the balance ?
Oh wow, I hope that the body that was found wasn’t him. Such a young life, he should of just stayed in prison, he only had a few years and his whole life ahead of him.
If it is this poor guy. It would be very interesting to know what scared him enough to escape from prison and then my guess is kill himself??
agreed!!! did he escape alone? highly suspicious story….
0r maybe someone murdered him
Poor guy? Do you live in a cave? I don’t think he was quite so innocent
So where does Commissioner Joseph Ponte stand on all these escapes? Time for Governor LePage to rethink this appointment and put a Maine career corrections professional at the helm.
You alaways have some escapes from low security prisons, no matter the Governor, or Commissioner.
The Gov would of given the guy a wooded shampoo, he does take any crap.
Agreed. The Gov has sure put the wood to Maine.
sad. it was good the family was notified. that will give hopefully a id but it is sad.
This is all I have to say…sad, very sad. I don’t care about all the other stuff. Such a young man, and yes, at a young age most of us made dumb mistakes. My condolences to the family.
” theft by unauthorized taking” is the same as ‘Wet by liquid.” What a bunch of Einsteins.
Just like the satire movie “Murder By Death”
your pretty ignorant you ought to think of the family and how they feel.. What if its was your loved one and someone said that???
i think of crime victims first, second, and last
Really BDN? What he said was true
thats my sisters badydaddy
Deepest sympathy to his family – but – this is not the forum to be looking for sympathy. If his loved ones are looking for solace from a newspaper, I recommend going to the guest book on the obituary page.
We’re all young and make stupid decisions at times. Some of us get caught some don’t. Some are really bad and some aren’t. Let’s not forget Brian was still young and had potential. I’ve known him for quite a long time. While he wasn’t a perfect angel he still was someone’s angel. He is well loved by family and friends no matter if he made the right decision or not. He was still a new father and leaves behind many that love him and will miss him dearly. I thank everyone for their polite comments. I leave behind my thoughts and prayers for both him and his family and also the ones he’s touched in life. It’s another soul stolen from us too young.
thats my sisters father of her child
My condolences to his family and friends in their time of grief. So sad to loose such a young soul…
Best comment I have seen so far
alot of people in the next couple of decades WONT be
a victim of crime
“The owner of property on Barrows Point Road discovered his garage had been broken into on Sunday after he went to mow the lawn”

Escaped, scored a bunch of heroin and accidentally od’d. All the theft may have been to fuel a drug addiction. All speculation of course. The real question is why was he stealing? I’m surprised everyone is shocked at the sentence, let’s prevent this in the first place! if you pay taxes you’re paying for 3 squares a day and more!
First rule of committing a crime: ‘Don’t do the crime, if you can’t do the time’

Is it just me or does this sound a little strange? The article says that the police ”
received information” on the possible whereabouts of this kid and then they find him dead? Do they suspect any foul play? I dont know it just seemed a little fishy but we dont have all the info yet either so??
young, very nice looking, do you suppose it was the treatment by the other prisoners, very sad, had time enough to turn his life around.
wonder how nice if he would have looked if you opened
your garage door and found him in there stealing and he
has a hammer in his hand
you are right, it would not have been good. can not look at people and judge them.
THATS THE FATHER OF MY SISTERS BABY….
So sorry for your sister, and your families loss. It’s a heart breaker.
SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN ?
i think of crime victims first, second, and last
i refuse to think of people who steal what others went to work for
It’s all money for you. No heart there. He’s 21…what were you doing at 21? Oh, I know. You were an angel.
at 21yo , i was a paid, 24 hour volunteer at $75 at a Catholic summer camp for disadvantaged kids. there are plenty of adults in this state that stayed out of trouble when they were young.
I am glad you were so mature at 21. Not everyone is. I was not, although I did not get into any legal trouble either. It is a fact that the male brain takes more time to mature than the average female. So most women by that age have reached a suitable level of maturity but not all of the males at that age have reached that same level. Biology? Environment? Probably some of both. This young man surely made some very bad decisions, but none us of knows why he did what he did. He was young and he did have a chance to change. He doesn’t have that now.
My condolences to his family and his friends. I hope you get the answers you need and find some level of closure. RIP Brian.
My heart goes out to his parents. What an awful thing to have to face.
It is so sad. Body count for the War on Drugs.
