AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Public Safety Department says the number of motorcycle deaths on the state’s highways is outpacing last year’s figure.
The state’s highway death toll so far this year stands at 120, with 20 of those deaths being motorcyclists.
At this time last year, the motorcycle fatality count was 12, and officials say there’s still more than a month left of decent motorcycle riding in the state.
Three people were killed during the past week in car crashes in Maine.
Fine the guy with no seat buckles? Then me why Motorcycles are even legal if it about saving lives not a fun raiser . I would bet my truck is safer without a seat buckle.
It’s seat belts not buckles. Motorcycles not motocycles. Tell me not they me. Please tell me you aren’t a rocket scientist.
I did not claim to be educated . Just saying you can out a 4 year old on a bike . As per miles driven its more dangerous than my truck . Ticket everyone that dose not use seat belts seems more like a fund raiser to me. Nothing against bikes .
They do ticket people for not using seat belts I personally think they are a pain but, it’s the law.
It is a fund raiser . I can see a child but an adult in a car with no belt is still safer than A bike.
Maybe so, but people like to ride them and others don’t look out for them. The roads are suppose to be for everyone but, some think it’s all about them. Nothing is going to fix that. You can’t regulate or legislate common sense.

Pretty soon they will require motorcycles to have seat restraints installed..
Some Bikers, God Bless Them WILL not slow down, and they will inevitably run upon a situation whereupon they are unable to avoid an accident. That’s a fact. After awhile, their luck runs out and sometimes the innocent will pay. Stuff happens. When you see a blinker, be ready, they just might turn the OTHER way. Elderly drivers in Maine are a real problem…not to mention people on their cell phones. ALWAYS drive defensively, or you could pay with your life. I almost did, and I was in the CAR…a bike decided to pass me as I was turning left. He was going so fast, I did not see, nor hear him behind me. He paid. Dearly. Sooo…bikers (and I ride, too), just slow down to a reasonable speed (posted) and enjoy the ride. We love you, too!
I will only say this. i have ridden motorcycle for over 40 years now. Thank god I have not been in to many bad situations. But I will tell you the most bad times I have had,where caused by idiots driving cars and trucks. So many people do not give motorcycle riders any respect at all. Yes there are idiots out there on motorcycles also. If all drivers would respect all other drivers ,there would be alot less accidents. Everyone out there be careful and ride and drive safe. You all deserve to live as long as you can.

Loud Pipes do NOT save lives. In fact, that is one big fat myth. Loud safety – as in high vis jackets – and helmets, gloves, boots, etc.. and common sense and safe driving do.

be pointed forward. The chances of rearward-facing straight pipes making
a bike more obvious are very slim. The reality of the loud pipe is that
all you’ll succeed in doing is irritating all the people behind and beside
you who don’t pose much of a threat anyway.
Loud pipes – on motorcycles, cars, trucks, etc… – make lousy neighbors and destroy the image of those involved.

Is it somehow a secret shame among motorcyclists to die with a helmet on?
No guarantees, we know that motorcycling is inherently a dangerous activity. You are riding on the OUTSIDE of a heavy machine, capable of high speed, with NOTHING to protect you but what you wear: proper clothes, boots, helmet… See #s 1-55 of the above report.
Wearing a helmet is the smart choice.
Im not saying that helmets do not save lives. But almost all people when you ask them about the ones that die with them on have no answer at all. Once again why dont people get rid of their cars. You know how many die in them every year. It is no different,when you die in a car or on a motorcycle you are just as dead.
