PARKMAN, Maine — A Parkman man was arrested twice Sunday after he allegedly assaulted his wife, causing serious facial injuries, and then violated the conditions of his bail from that arrest by calling her on a TracFone.
James Frances Lonergan, 31, currently is out on bail, a Piscataquis County Jail official confirmed early Monday evening.
Piscataquis County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy said that Lonergan was released after a court appearance in Dover-Foxcroft during which he pleaded guilty to violating the conditions of his release from the first of his two arrests.
The first arrest occurred about 2:45 p.m. Sunday, after the assault was reported to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department. The second happened shortly after 5 p.m., when Lonergan used a cellphone to call his wife, a violation of a condition of his release that prohibited him from having contact with her.
“The victim has obtained a protection from abuse order on behalf of herself and her children,” Almy said, adding that the couple’s two elementary-school aged children were in the residence when the assault occurred.
Almy called the incident “a serious case. [There were] injuries to the victim’s face. She had a broken orbital bone,” Almy said.
A friend of the victim said Lonergan kicked his wife 17 times, breaking her nose and causing cuts to her mouth and tongue as well as bruising.
Almy said Lonergan is scheduled to make an initial court appearance in Dover-Foxcroft on Oct. 22 to answer to the domestic violence assault charge.

You’re right. Does not anyone remember the Lake family? I am in hopes that this lady and her children are in a safe place, and not at home. A paper order doesn’t stop anyone.
she can run but she will be found by this sick monster. he can’t be stopped until something drastic happens. they said they are making stiffer laws to protect people like her but nothing is being done. i say post no bail and kept him locked up till his trial and make sure he has no e mail connections or access to a phone that way he won’t have someone finish his unfinished business. sadly this woman did everything and everything she was supposed to but the laws are not backing her up like usual. hopefully this woman and her children can get some peace soon but as long as this monster is free to roam she will always be looking over her shoulder.

The fact that this scumbag is out on the street should not surprise anyone. When he escalates the violence the DA can prosecute a murder charge instead of just assault. and don’t start telling me about how the judge sets bail,blah,blah,blah,the whole system allows for this travesty waiting in the wings. So freaking unreal. What is wrong with this picture? How and why was he let loose in the first place? She was severly injured (broken orbital bone) and had bruises from being kicked numberous times in front of her kids. He’s turned loose not once but twice? I don’t get it!

He should not have been granted bail from the first arrest. There was a law just passed which requires that a judge set bail on charges of aggravated domestic violence, not a bail commissioner.

If Lepage really wanted to end domestic violence, there should be a mandatory 30 day sentence immediatly following the arrest, no bail, no contact with the victim. At least give the wife a chance to get her head on straight to make the best descision for herself and her children without making descisions out of fear!
Ina case such as this they should be held without bail. a beating like he gave her is full of rage, kicking someone in the face 17 times is not normal. I just hope that something worse doesn’t happen. Then it’s too late.
There is no way i would have ever let this man out of jail a second time. with in hours of his first charge he dose something to break bail . he should stay in jail until his court date.
