PORTLAND, Maine — Police are investigating a head-on collision that sent a Saco man and a Portland woman to the hospital Thursday.

Robert Biltcliffe of Saco was driving on Congress Street near Brookline Cemetery around 11:35 a.m. when his Ford Ranger drifted across the road and struck a Honda minivan driven by Brenda Grindle of Portland, according to Portland police Sgt. Troy Bowden.

Both drivers, along with a passenger in Biltcliffe’s vehicle whom police did not identify, were seriously injured in the crash and transported to Maine Medical Center for treatment, according to Bowden.

A hospital spokeswoman said Biltcliffe was listed in fair condition Friday morning while Grindle has been released from the hospital.

Portland police are investigating the crash, and it’s unclear if speed or alcohol were factors, Bowden said.

The section of Congress Street where the accident took place was shut down for about two hours.
