AUGUSTA, Maine — Police have charged a Maine man accused of withholding care and nourishment from his 2-month-old daughter with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

An indictment charging 33-year-old Jedediah Watson was unsealed this week. The charges stem from alleged abuse between Sept. 8 and Nov. 7 of 2011, and child welfare agents intervened.

The Kennebec Journal says the indictment was unsealed upon Watson’s arrest Tuesday.

Watson was arraigned Wednesday in Waterville District Court, and remained Thursday in Kennebec County Jail. Bail was set at $1,000 cash or $10,000 in property. The jail had no paperwork indicating if he had retained a lawyer.

  1. DHS has been alerted. The father has been jailed and sentenced to spend time with “The Sisters” at Warren Correctional Facility; Warren, Maine. The child is to be removed forcibly from the home of the mother or any other guardian and sent to state custody until the age of no less than 16 years old. The mother will also be charged with neglect and tampering with evidence.
