BANGOR, Maine — The pickup truck of a Husson University student was involved in a property damage accident early Friday morning, and police ended up charging the student, who was found asleep in his dorm room, Bangor police Sgt. Ed Potter said Saturday.

The truck, owned by Thomas Shaw, 21, of Anson, was damaged and also left evidence as it “slid across the road and into a ditch and a [Husson University] sign,” the sergeant said.

It was pretty clear to police that after hitting the sign, the damaged truck “continued to a parking space,” Potter said.

Someone noticed the damage and called campus security, who called Bangor police at about 3:45 a.m. Friday. When police found Shaw, “he smelled of alcohol strongly,” Potter said.

“He denied knowing how his truck got from Brewer to Husson,” the sergeant said.

Shaw, who was alone, was able to find his truck keys in his dorm room. He was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Potter said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. That sign could have been a person. This young man should know he dodged a bullet by not getting an OUI?

  2. That’s the beauty of having a “University” right in the middle of Bangor  We need more out of town idiots than we were able to grow locally on our own.

      1. You are correct-they do-do we need whole bunch more? Perhaps we should send a bus load of our drunk drivers up to Anson for this young man’s family and friends to dodge. One would think that a young man spending over 30k a year might be smart enough to spend 10 bucks on a cab so that he doesn’t kill someone  He was lucky this time. I hope he learns something from this  not taught at Husson.  Thanks for the comment
