TURNER, Maine — A man’s truck rolled into the Androscoggin River early Sunday morning when he stopped to use the portable restroom at a boat launch in Turner.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the turn of events that led to a 2001 Ford F150 owned by Michael Bell, 36, of Leeds, rolling into the river at the boat launch on Center Bridge Road in Turner.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident was reported at 1:13 a.m. Sunday, but crews weren’t able to retrieve the vehicle until 10:51 a.m. that same morning.
A salvage diver located the vehicle in about 15 to 20 feet of water. It is not known at this time what caused the truck to roll into the river. No one was injured in the accident.

It’s a FORD, it obviously slipped into gear. I’m suprised there wasn’t an engine fire too.
Maybe he thought it was designed to FORD the river. Or perhaps his presumably unscheduled pit stop had assumed emergency proportions, and he had no time to set the e-brake.
A friend bought a Ford. Regretted his purchase when it needed new spark plugs. Said he belonged to the Ford Owner/Operators League. That made him a FOOL!
he owed money….insurance will pay…………
Emergency brake…every single time…you put vehicle into Park.
Double check brake, before you open door, or allow someone else to enter vehicle.
Shorter version: Shut engine if not moving for 10 seconds or longer. Saves fuel, wear on engine.
Set brake.
Put er in low and hurry…..
If yer back teeth are floating or you’re prarie doggin’, ya’ may not even slip it into park (assuming it’s an automatic) before ya’ head for the outhouse.
Not the best way to wash your truck.
I’m sure it will be for sale soon at a dealership near you…with all new electronics…hopefully! It still will never be the same truck. Glad to that no one was hurt.
Bangor Car Care maybe. “Come join the party!”
lol, that’s one of the places I was thinking when I wrote it.
Ball Sack
This is the reason why insurance ads on television use the exact scenarios they do in selling themselves to prospective customers…..one of those oh crap moments!
I bet that Allstate Mayhem guy had something to do with it.
Either the parking brake and the transmission both failed at exactly the same time…or it’s this bonehead’s fault.
I’m going to go with the second option.
dude wheres my car?
It amazes me that this type of article is on the first page of the online addition of the BDN, yet I can’t find anything of world news on this site at all.
What part about Bangor Daily News is confusing you?
He was fishing and left his pole propped up between his brush guard and grille. An Androscoggin Northern Pike did the rest.
When ya gotta go, ya gotta go…
It’s not very often that side window rain guards have water underneath them.
