UNITY, Maine — Police are looking for a man who cut a hole in the side of the Unity Pharmacy early Sunday and stole enough prescription painkillers to fill his backpack.

The man used basic cutting tools to get through the pharmacy’s exterior siding and wall at about 2 a.m. and managed to bypass the store’s motion alarms for about 20 minutes while he stole drugs, according to Maine State Police Trooper Bethany Robinson.

“He was pretty specific about what he took,” she said.

No one was in the store at the time.

The man, whom she described as about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and thin with dark hair, was caught on camera, although the photos are grainy. Police have no information about whether the man had a vehicle.

Anyone with information is requested to call Maine State Police at 624-7076. Callers can remain anonymous, Robinson said.

  1. Here’s a new trend,-just wait a few days and someone will try the same method to rob another drug store. These people are not that creative. I’ve not GOOGLED the topic, but How to rob a Pharmacy is probably there by now.

  2. Boy I sure am glad the 3 methadone clinics that serve the greater Bangor area have curbed the crime. Gee wiz, without these methadone clinics where would we be?

Oh that’s right, we would be living in an area that doesn’t have a pharmacy robbed ONCE A WEEK.

      1. Methadone clinics serve a lot of people who need help with their addiction. When used properly the methadone works and people can kick the habit. They aren’t a farce for those who want help.
Bad apples spoil it for everyone. Methadone and meth are two different things.

        1. You are correct, they do help people that actually want the help and are serious about changing their life style.

  3. And authorities are worried about marijuana…because why???????? Narcotics are an epidemic, something needs to be done

  4. all Pharmacist should be armed…….and instructed to shoot to kill whenever they are being robbed by anyone holding firearms……a few dead pill heads and they will start getting the message.

    1. Wouldn’t have helped here. This guy broke in during the wee hours of the morning when the store was closed. He was there about twenty minutes before setting off any alarm and helped himself to what he wanted.

  5. With that many pills, this guy is undoubted dealing. Someone should know there is a new supply of pills in the area. He shouldn’t be that hard to find.

    1. Given the precision, timing and knowledge you can rest assured the PD has a pretty good lead list. My guess is either a former employee, very regular customer or associate of someone on the inside. There is no way this is your typical smash and grab. Good luck PD.

      1.  I agree.  Being able to evade the motion detectors for 20 minutes and knowing exactly where to drill that hole kinda makes me think that this robber had some inside knowledge about the store.

  6. They should have a bottle of pills that give them the runs. the type that doesn’t stop until your empty. I can see 3 or 4 of them needing the bathroom all at once. They would be ticked off at their dealer.  Or maybe some really bad tripping acid.. make them see monsters…LOL!

  7.  I would have had to grab a couple cases of chocolate covered cherries too!  I’m an addict to those!   Maybe some BIC pens and chapstick while I was at it.

    1. You really should have those persistent lip sores looked at…………Could be a chocolate allergy.

  8. I love how they have such grainy cameras in a PHARMACY, yet the cameras in the back room of Thriftway in Orono are great.

  9. Is it just me or is this guy dressed like a medical orderly or some type of health professional?

  10. I don’t get it, what’s with these lousy pictures.  I have a $100.00 game camera that takes high def pictures compared to all of these security camera pictures we seen in print and on TV.  What good are the pics if you can’t ID the perp.
