ETNA AND BANGOR – Carol L. Eyles, 78, passed away peacefully Sept. 27, 2012, at a Bangor health care facility. Carol was born Nov. 29, 1933, in New York City, daughter of the late Charles and Helen Slovacek.
Carol spent most of her youth in the city borough of Queens, N.Y. She married Gene Chiarelly and raised three sons, Chuck, Bob and Tom on Long Island, N.Y. She worked for many years at a small electronics firm, Philamon Labs, as an executive secretary. After moving to Watertown, N.Y., in 1973 she married Ernie Eyles in 1978, and together they raised John. Together, Carol and Ernie spent most of the remaining years in Maine, where she worked at Ella P. Burr School, Lincoln, in administration. Carol was liked by those that knew her; she was loved by those that knew her well.
Carol is survived by her sister, Marlene McDermott; sons, Chuck and wife, Joann, Bob and wife, Sue, and Tom and wife, Linda; stepson, Jon; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Ernie Eyles.
Interment will be private beside her husband, Ernest, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. www.hampdengilpatrick.com.
