AUBURN, Maine — An unidentified body was found floating in Lake Auburn on Thursday morning and local and state police are now organizing a recovery effort.

They have no description of the body, including gender or age.

According to Auburn Deputy Chief Jason Moen, public water department workers found a body floating in the water on the north shore of the lake. The body was found far from the water department intakes, so there are no public drinking water quality issues.

Police are looking into any missing persons reports or reports of water vessels that may have capsized, according to Moen.

The Warden Service, State Police and the Auburn Fire Department are assisting police with the recovery effort. According to Moen, the body will be brought to the Lake Auburn Boat Launch on Route 4.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

  1. So sad, someone is about to hear of the loss of their family member.
Brings Ayla to mind, though i hope its not and she is alive and well with someone!

  2. The requirement for polite comments here disallows use of the words I’d like to send your way.  Suffice to say I think you get the idea anyway.  Then again, you are a republican so perhaps not.

  3. Just glad my drinking water doesn’t come from this lake. Sorry to hear about this person’s death. Hope he/she is identified soon so the family can learn what happened to their loved one.

  4. So a dead body wont harm water quality, but the still have the $2500 for touching the water fine signs up… even though now every bit of drinking water is fully filtered and treated… They really dont want those city folks swimming…
