NEW CANADA – Verna Albert Desjardins, 87, passed away Oct. 4, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Frenchville. She was born April 4, 1925, in Eagle Lake, daughter of David and Laura (Dumais) Albert.
Verna Married Robert Desjardins in December 1942, and together they raised a family of seven children on their small family farm. Verna graduated from Fort Kent schools and pursued higher education later on in life. The highlight of her career was teaching Head Start in Wallagrass and Fort Kent. She also was a member of Ladies of St. Anne of St. John Vianney Parish.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Desjardins, in 1997; daughter, Pauline Desjardins, in 2001; one brother, Gerry Albert; and three sisters, Aurore Morneault, Blanche Buzard and Lucienne Spencer. She is survived by five sons, Robert and Donna of Barnard, Vt., Roger and Nicky of Soldier Pond, Dana and Paula of Raymond, Glen and Paula of Soldier Pond and Joel and Mary Ann of Fort Kent. She also leaves a daughter, Nancy and her husband, John Goulet, of Southington, Conn.; three sisters, Jackie Labbe of Wallagrass, Lavola Osden and Beulah Menard; brother, Nelson Guimond; and sister-in-law, Lucille Albert, all of New Britain, Conn. Verna leaves 18 grandchildren, Lee, Donnie, Tammy, John, Carol, Scott, Kelby, Michelle, Kyle, Cheryl, Kurt, Derek, Robby, Danielle, Haley, Jake, Brady and Samantha; 18 great-grandchildren and her amazing family of caregivers at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Soldier Pond. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Soldier Pond. In lieu of flowers and to celebrate Verna’s love and devotion to children, the family asks that friends and relatives remember her by doing something special for a loved one or for a child or children in your life. Services have been entrusted to Daigle Funeral Home, Fort Kent.
