Knee injury ends versatile Bangor goalkeeper Harrigan’s season

The Bangor High School boys soccer team will be without sophomore goalkeeper/fullback/midfielder Liam Harrigan for the rest of the season.

Harrigan collided with a teammate and a Lawrence High School player in Tuesday night’s 4-3 win and suffered a knee injury that will sideline him for six weeks, according to Bangor coach David Patterson.

Harrigan was the starting goalie as a freshman and was splitting time in goal with junior Colton Markevich while also seeing duty as a back and a midfielder.

Markevich was the junior varsity goalie last season.

“Liam was playing very well in goal, and he is a pretty versatile field player who sees the game well and reads it well,” said Patterson. “This gives Colton a chance to get some more experience, and he has responded very well so far. We’re very comfortable with either one of them in goal.”

Markevich took over with Bangor trailing 3-2 late in the first half and shut out the Bulldogs the rest of the way. Markevich and the Rams blanked Mt. Blue of Farmington 2-0 on Wednesday and edged Waterville 2-1 on Friday.

Sophomore Ezra Frost has been called up from the JV team to back up Markevich.

“Ezra’s a very good athlete. He was also playing in the field. He’s going to gain a lot of experience practicing with the varsity,” said Patterson.

Bangor is currently 7-1-3 and in fifth place in the Heal points standings.
