LEEDS, Maine — An elderly man whose license had been revoked due to medical issues earlier this year is facing a charge after his minivan hit a child on a bicycle early Monday, police said.

Milton Hill, 83, of Monmouth was headed eastbound on Bog Road around 9 a.m. when he came upon a trio of 11-year-old boys out for a bike ride, according to Lt. Glenn Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

Hill allegedly struck the child in the center of the convoy, sending him off his bike and landing him on a lawn near the shoulder of the road, Holt said. The boys were riding single file.

Hill claimed to police that he did not see the bicyclists due to a tree obstructing his vision.

The boy, whose name police did not disclose because he is a juvenile, was taken by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Hill was charged with operating after his license was suspended or revoked, Holt said. The accident remains under investigation.

  1. Exhibit A about why elderly drivers can be a danger to themselves and others on the road. and why they should have regular testing to maintain their licenses. He should not even have been on the road if his license had been revoked. As someone else noted, a younger driver would have been arrested under the same circumstances.
