BANGOR, Maine — A local man kicked in the front door of an apartment house last week, and when police Officer Richard Polk arrived at the scene, he saw him snorting cocaine off a truck parked in a garage next door, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Joseph A. Cammack Jr., 30, of Bangor was arrested and charged with five crimes — including three felonies — at about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, the sergeant said.

Cammack was at the residence of a 38-year-old woman’s on Birch Street and she wanted him to leave, Edwards said.

“When he got outside, he decided he wanted to go back in but she had locked the door,” the sergeant said. Cammack then kicked in the door to the apartment building, Edwards said.

The woman called 911. Meanwhile, Cammack got into the garage next door and was found with a white powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine, Edwards said.

“Officer Polk observed him snorting the white substance on the truck inside the garage,” the sergeant said.

Cammack, who also reportedly had the prescription drug Xanax on him, was charged with felony burglary and two counts of felony unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, as well as criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, Edwards said. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Monday afternoon, a jail official said.

      1. I understand that we can all look it up at city hall but unless the media is willing to pick up the story there will not be enough pressure put upon the slumlords to make a change. The local media will not pick up the story even it was compelling as we live in such a small community most of the slumlords are potential advertisers. let me give you proof, we had our own prostitution ring in the bangor/brewer area, remember cinnamon treat/sweets? Where is the list of Johns from that event? Selective journalism due to the size of the advertiser base.

    1. I do like this line of questioning. I especially like the way some local well-to-do’s make money off section 8 people and basically run a slum building. Not only does it devalue the neighborhood it also taxes the local police department. These slumlords are often the people who pipe up about saving taxpayers money and fiscal responsibility…… blah blah blah. Lets uncover the slumlords….

    2. Your actually blaming the landlord for this guys actions? He doesn’t even live there.Next time someone robs a Rite Aid we probably should blame them and shut it down!

  1. loss of control, a major symptom of substance abuse problem. 5 charges in one arrest. Well done sir!

  2. I know the kid and his parents. In my personal opinion the Mother is a perpetual loser, father a perpetual loser……sad that you are born innocent and then you have to adapt.

    1. That is the  sad case in many situations.  But there comes a time when we choose our own fate & are responsible for how we want to live life & he is certainly past the age of the blame game.

      1. I agree but unfortunatly his parents (both) have ingrained a life of drugs and failure. These people often try to get up but then fall when they need support because their support systems are their parents. We all need better role models but in this case the parents are beyond lost.

    2. I have known the family for over 25 years and i would like to say the mom has busted her butt trying  to help the two children, yes the bio dad is a bum.The kids step father is no prize, he has fathered two kids outside of the marriage, certianly not a good role model.Have to remember the kids dont pick their parents or their step parents

  3. who writes these friggen articles? Try telling the story in a sequence.. stories tend to make more sense that way

  4. This guy was a really good kid, a Veteran, and a war hero who saw horrific things in Iraq. This is a textbook case of young man with severe PTSD. If his family, the legal system, and the VA don’t find a way to force him to get the care he needs this whole thing will end or continue badly.

    Good luck Joe…

    1. So whats the excuse for his sister who has been in and out of prison her whole life? Stop making excuses for these people, look at the parents and put the blame on the people who created this mess….two kids that are drug addicts……..

      1. I can’t speak to his sister. But I knew him in HS before we both went off to war and it is obvious his experiences changed him.

PTSD is real. Those of us who went to war know that. Given what Joe has sacrificed for his country and the tools like you who live in it, you should have some respect and sympathy.

  5. I don’t think they should have released his name until he was found guilty.. The BPD and the DA’s office aren’t witholding names of suspects. I don’t understand it. it might ruin his reputation.. Oh I get it. he is not one of the special people.

    1. That doesn’t even make sense. WHY shouldn’t his name be printed and the story be told? It’s public knowledge for a reason. We, as a community, have the right to know who and what is being done in our city. People need to stop making excuses and trying to justify the actions of criminals. If you don’t want your actions reported or your name in the paper, then maybe people will think twice about being stupid. Time to make some changes in his life.

  6. I hope you get help Little Joe,I know you have PTSD.You need to turn your life around. You have so much potential.Don’t waste it on stupid drugs.Cocaine, she does lie.She wrecked your life.Snap out of it and go to rehab.Take Care and Take Care of your Life.

  7. hope he has fun in solitary confinement the entire prison stay!!! this kid is a piece of dog feces and likes to wear wires on people, have fun in jail you RAT!!!!!! Also on an unrelated matter his father is one of Bangor’s slum lords, I rented an apartment from him and while i was staying there a man from the bank showed up informing me that I was being evicted because the building was foreclosed on a year before i even rented it!!! so like they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and in this case it is true they are both scumbags.

  8. I am so sick and tired of people making excuses and trying to justify the actions of others. Oh, he has PTSD and he is a war veteran? Well that just changes everything!! He shouldn’t be held accountable for being a criminal, we should give that man a medal!! BOO on all of you who think that he should get a pass because he served our country. If anything, he should be held to a higher standard and made an example for others who think that they can get away with something because they have a disease like PTSD. Drugs will get you no where in life and this is a perfect example of why you shouldn’t do them!! Bangor has made a turn for the worst and if something doesn’t change then our city is in for it. Time to grow up and realize that there are consequences for your actions, hopefully he learns something from this and becomes a productive member of society like most of us already have!! I have no pity for him.
