BRUNSWICK, Maine — A Maine man sought in connection with a late-September stabbing in Brunswick was arrested Oct. 12 in California.
Police said Jamie Mondragon, 31, of Auburn was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Fresno, Calif., after sources helped law enforcement officers determine his whereabouts.
Mondragon allegedly fled the scene of an early morning stabbing on Sept. 30 near an apartment at 9 Perryman Drive. The victim was a 25-year-old woman who suffered multiple stab wounds while three children were inside the apartment.
The woman’s wounds were not life-threatening, and she was reported in stable condition later that day.
Brunswick Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said he could not disclose how Mondragon ended up more than 3,000 miles away from the scene of the crime, although the arrest was coordinated by the local police department, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Maine Violent Offender Task Force.
Mondragon was arrested on two warrants for aggravated assault, one warrant for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and a charge of probation violation, Hagan said.
He was being held at the Fresno County Jail pending extradition to Maine, the deputy said.
So the cops have this violent criminal locked up in California ?
How about just leave him there?

He ran as far as he could go but you cannot outrun the fate you create. His seems to be behind bars.
I thought he was wearing stripes!! It would be nice if they kept him there! Now we will have to pay for his sorry *ss to fly back here.
I believe it is because a person can only be charged and prosecuted in the jurisdiction where the crime took place, which in this instance is in Maine. So we don’t have a choice about whether he comes back, he has to come back to pay for his crime.
In Fresno California County Jail. He’ll be begging to come back here. Don’t you think it’s odd that the criminals want to do their time at Warren and not out of state?? Said with: just a bit of sarcasm on my part.
