PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are searching for a man they say drove into a boy who was riding a bicycle on Congress Street and then fled the scene, according to a department statement Monday afternoon.
According to police, the driver pulled a light-colored sedan out of the alley next to 715 Congress St. and struck a 13-year-old Portland boy who was riding his bicycle west along the street near the Bramhall Fire Station just before 3 p.m. Friday.
The boy was transported to Maine Medical Center nearby with what police describe as injuries not considered life-threatening, but the driver fled the scene after the incident.
Witnesses described the driver of the sedan as a tall, thin black male in his 20s, and said a passenger fitting a similar description was also in the car at the time, police said Monday.
Police are urging anyone with information about the case to call 874-8532.
