OLD TOWN – Robert “Bob” Peter Shaw, 75, died Oct. 12, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 1, 1937, in Houlton, a son of Harry and Blanche (Harvey) Shaw.
He grew up in Houlton and was raised by his foster parents, Stella and Clyde Oliver. As a young man he worked in the woods of Houlton with his foster father. He moved to the Bangor area in the early 1970s and was employed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor, for more than 25 years and in his later years he drove taxi. He was dedicated to his family and enjoyed following the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob will be remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, and selflessness. Bob loved animals as well as enjoying NASCAR and the Boston Red Sox and in his younger years, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Ramsay of Bucksport; seven stepchildren, Trudy DeCantu of Utah, Bert Francis of Old Town, Shirley Garland of Portland, Jo-Ann Francis of Brewer, Joseph Francis and his wife, Debra, of Glenburn, Calvin Francis and his wife, Michele, of Indian Island, Mark Francis and his wife, Stephanie, of Winterport; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Fleming, Molly Bailey and Josephine McGuire; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patsy; and his second wife, Shirley; a grandson, Derek Jenkins; a great-grandchild, Damien Lynn; seven brothers, Paul, Arnold, Bernie, Lonnie, Max, Philip and Roy.
Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
