KENNEBUNK, Maine — A long-time Maine high school hockey coach whose name appeared on a list of 21 men accused of paying a local Zumba fitness instructor for sex has stepped down.

School Superintendent Andrew Dolloff said Wednesday that Kennebunk High School coach Donald Hill announced the day before he wouldn’t seek to renew his contract for next season for personal reasons after 14 years as head coach.

Police on Tuesday released the names of the first batch of men to be summonsed after being accused of engaging a prostitute.

Hill was listed alongside a former mayor and several businessmen. He hasn’t returned a cellphone message seeking comment.

Men from Massachusetts and New Hampshire also are listed.

The prostitution case has shocked Kennebunk, a small seaside town known for its beaches and old sea captains’ mansions.

  1. Good call, However, I don’t think folks should have a career loss over this, but hey, in 1999 I got a speeding ticket and lost my job as a case worker for the elderly, that follows me today, the job loss. Being fired on my resume doesn’t look good! But Prostitution???? Glad I just got a speeding ticket!

    1.  Was a clean driving record a requirement for your job? I know a guy who drives a delivery truck for a living and has a couple of handfuls of tickets – but keeps his job.

Sounds like you got a raw deal.

    1. Well, when you bring a disease home to your wife or husband it is a big deal.  Not to mention the cheating and trust issues that follow.  It affects the whole family.  Paying for sex is illegal. This is a big part of the picture and why he has consequences.

      1. Sure it’s a big deal and it “affects the whole family” as you say.  But it is a family matter!  The names, ages and addresses are being published, what else do you want?   Do you think they should spend time in jail?  Seriously?   Fine them and move on!

        1. they werent thinking of their family or anything else when they were paying for it…i dont feel sorry for any of them!!!

      2. Paying CASH for sex is illegal.  Quid-pro-quo (dinner and a movie in trade) is not illegal. last time I heard, cash didn’t cause the “disease” and elementary school teachers bring home LOTS of illnessess to their families.

Face it:  these laws are here because the moral majority ((sic) is invested in making sure people don’t have too much fun.

  2. Moral Vaules have nothing to do with socioeconomic status  . Teacher cop or whatever . Just the well to do are more likely not to get caught. I coach may not be rich but just as high in Status as a doctor.

  3. I oppose the public exploitation of the people involved. It’s not like they’re child molesters.

    1. Please fill me in on who you think should be publicly exploited.. what crimes should be exposed to the general public. List Please.

      1. I’m unsure as to whether you misread my initial comment. None of these people should be publicly exploited. There are people out there committing real crimes – crimes that involve hurting other people. If this woman wasn’t getting paid for the sex, would it still be a crime? How dare someone make income that isn’t taxable.

    2. So, my traffic violation should not have been published? They have basically ruined this woman, and it takes two! The people involved comited a CRIME!

        1. A traffic violation will not show up on a criminal background check, however, Prostitution is a crime and will. I think it should be legalized, but the point is, it is not.. so it is a crime. If my speeding gets me listed in the BDN then those involved in a crime should as well.

          1. Actually not only do traffic violations show up on criminal background checks, but ANY contact with a law enforcement agency will show up as well.  You do not have to be convicted of anything.  just being”detained” will get you recognized.

          2. I do background checks on my employees, I also have them fill out a seperate DMV paper to do a check on that. But Criminal convictions show up on Background checks, even an OUI, all DMV checks tell me is how many driving violations a person has, they are not considered criminal.

          3. Depends what kind of “background check”” you buy as an employer, BUT the information on every contact with law enforcement is available… of course (as you know) for a price.

    3. Ditto.   People are making them sound like rapists and molesters, for Pete’s sake.  Come on folks; put this in perspective.  Lives are already ruined.  Pay the fine and move on!

  4. Revealing the names of these perpetrators did not cause the problem. Whatever problems they have started well before they felt compelled to pay someone for sex. The sex industry is not a harmless, “nobody’s business” hobby. Little girls and women, young and old, are stolen, beaten, abused and killed by sex traders all over the world, so men like these can satisfy their sex drive and others can profit. These men are not being exploited. They contribute to the exploitation of girls and women every where, and they deserve to be held accountable.

    1. So one should shop around and find a good reputable one,  with good hiring practices,  just like any other service.

  5. States should be lining up to decriminalize prostitution but of course they don’t because legislators like getting re-elected.  It’s going to take a massive grass roots effort led by women to end these bogus puritanic restrictions on natural behavior

  6. Although I believe the laws making prostitution illegal are archaic and outdated, I believe that until that changes, making the names of all involved public knowledge is the right call, and probably by law, even mandatory.

I feel the same way about our current laws pertaining to the use of marijuana. Although I neither enlist the services of prostitutes, or partake in the smoking of pot, those that do should be allowed to do so legally.

The tax payer’s money could, and should, be spent on more pressing and serious issues facing the law enforcement community.

By the time this particular incident is “laid to rest” many careers, marriages, and families will be ruined needlessly, not to mention the economic impact that will be a direct result of this unfortunate incident.

Unfortunately, as devastating as this incident ultimately will be, until the laws are changed, it’s our legal system, and we must be prepared to suffer the consequences if we choose to ignore them, however archaic or outdated they may be. It’s one of the many burdens we must all face being a “civilized society”.

  7. C’mon now…..it’s the same reason reality tv and rumor mags are successful. Most folks like to watch the carnage. I guarantee most folks read the court news just to see whom they might know that got in trouble. Welcome to modern day social media…..don’t get involved with what you don’t want everyone knowing about.

  8. look at the back page there is at least 30 ads Augusta must have ten or fifteen working girls alone. one ad for augusta even has three girls to chose from….lol

  9. When one is engaging in unlawful activity, whatever the case, there is risk involved. Apparently, it was worth it to those who were involved & paying for those services. They weren’t dragged there and went because they wanted to, and some went more than once I would image. They knew going in that if caught, they would face some harsh consequences. That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, especially to those involved.

  10. What do you call a person that would give all their personal info to an establishment that is illegally conducting business in an illegal profession?  STUPID  I think would lead the list very well.

  11.    “I know everyone says this, but this was my first time, honest, I don’t know why I did it, it was stupid, but it was my first time, honest it was & I’ll never do it again.”  “Oh my God, OMG, OMG  what am I going to do & so on & so forth.
Likely what many lawyers, girlfriends, wives & children have heard the past week,

  12. It’s just been in recent years that awareness of how vast sex trafficking is so it’s short-sighted to think that prostitution only involves consenting adults.  I agree with CentralMaineMom…there are thousand if not millions of girls and women being exploited against their will (and not just in other countries – it’s rampant in the US too)  in the sex trade so it’s not time to loosen laws at all.

    1. …and what does that have to do with the price of eggs?

Is there ANY claim by ANYONE in this case who says they were there “against their will?”  If there is I sure have not seen this in print.

Prostitution has been aroung as long as there has been gentillia.  It is NOT going away.  Time to legalize and license.

  13. Let me get this straight.

If I meet a woman who asks me if I want “a date” and I take her to the movies, and buy her dinner and we wind up in bed, there is no crime.  EVEN if I do this with a different woman every night.

    BUT

If I meet a woman who asks me if I want “a date” and I give her the price of dinner and a movie, and we wind up in bed, I have violated the law?

The whole thing sounds like a hypocrite’s scenerio to me.

  14. So how is it any different if I take a girl out and wine and dine her then have sex with her? Basically I am paying her buy buying her dinner and drinks! Would it be better if these men had negotiated a price went to target bought her a item of equal value and gave her the item as a gift along with the gift receipt. Really it is just sex it happens every second of every day why do we get to say what is prostitution any more than we should be saying who is able to get married to one another. It is consensual sex between two adults who are not being forced to do anything they don’t want to. Stop wasting tax payers money spend your time and sources trying to find ayala or her killer or bust some more of these drug related crimes.

  15. I feel for this man.  His job coaching has nothing to do with what he chooses to do off the “clock”
Unfortunately this case seems to be heading towards ruining as many lives as possible…and all our tax dollars are going to this?
Thank god we are free from any cold case murders, the computer crimes searching for pedophiles is not backlogged, our schools have plenty of money for education, and the roads are well taken care of or I would be mad about the waste of money in this case…  note the sarcasm
