HAMPDEN, Maine — The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said it arrested a Lubec man on a felony drug charge Wednesday after finding more than $6,000 worth of oxycodone in his truck.

Sharley Fitzsimmons, 47, whose criminal history includes a prior felony drug conviction, was arrested and charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, MDEA Division Commander Darrell Crandall said Thursday.

Fitzsimmons’ bail has been set at $100,000, Crandall said. As of Wednesday night, he remained at the Penobscot County Jail. If convicted, Fitzsimmons faces a minimum four-year prison sentence and a maximum possible sentence of 30 years.

Crandall said MDEA agents had Fitzsimmons under surveillance Wednesday when he left his home on Dixie Road in Lubec. They followed him to southern Maine, where they believed he was going to buy oxycodone to resell in Washington County.

The agents then followed Fitzsimmons back as far as Hampden, where they had a Maine State Police trooper stop his 1999 GMC truck late Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 95 northbound, Crandall said. During a search, agents found 127 tablets of 30 mg oxycodone hidden inside Fitzsimmons’ pants, Crandall said. He estimated the street value of the drugs at $6,300.

Fitzsimmons is scheduled to make an initial appearance in Penobscot County Superior Court on Nov. 21, Crandall said. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case, Crandall said.

    1.  Thats why they call it ” dope”.
Follow the trail back to Southern Maine.
Im sure a slight squeeze on this bloated junkie will have
him singing like a canary in no time.

  1. Or $20 at CVS.  Trying to make it sound like they done scooped up Scarface and it’s just a yahoo with a hundred pills, about a weeks worth for himself if he’s got the jones for them.  Might just wanna pay a LOT more attention to where he bought them…  Just saying.

    1. What’s this mean, anyway?  Doesn’t sound like he has a prescription for them as he had them hidden in his pants, not in a prescription bottle with his name on it.

      1. I think it means that the pharmaceutical industry has become today’s version of a Colombian cartel.  Except, in their pockets are politicians and high paid lawyers and a massive sales force, not including jamokes like Mr. Fitzimmons.  I really believe this incursion of initially legal, highly addictive pharmaceuticals is more insidious than that of cocaine, heroin or bath salts.  This drug starts out its life as something wonderful, whereas the others are bad from the get-go.  I can see why consumers would think taking a prescription med would be safer than a purely street drug, until they find themselves helplessly jonesing for more.

        1. Tah-dah, give ‘TwoCents the gold star for today!  Just a quick FYI here to back up your point…   “In Maine, an official from the state’s Office of Substance Abuse sent an internal spreadsheet showing that more than 4 million prescription painkiller pills had been legally prescribed by state physicians in 2010, five times the amount legally dispensed in 2006.”

    2. Just a yahoo with a hundred pills?? He has been selling drugs for YEARS. He just did a stint in prison on drug charges! A weeks worth for himself…….yup, I bet that’s it! And with the law following him, they obviously ARE paying attention to where he bought them……..just saying.

      1. And he’s still around with pills. So, once again, what about the places where he gets them? Can’t sell what he doesn’t have… Yes, 127 oxys a week aren’t unheard of for somebody with a real oil-burner habit going, though more likely he sold half and took half. Just because you don’t understand the true nature of oxy addiction doesn’t change the reality, March Hare. LOL

        1. Why are you trying to argue? I said that law enforcement IS OBVIOUSLY paying attention to where he bought them. Especially since they followed him from Lubec to southern Maine. And I’m sure he has more than one place where he gets his supply from. When the price of metal was up there, he went towards southern Maine on an almost daily basis…..”to sell metal.”……I’m sure that’s not the only thing he was heading to southern Maine to do!  You’re the one trying to make light of it, saying he is just a yahoo with a few hundred pills. He ISN’T “just some yahoo”……..he is a major drug dealer in Lubec and has been for at least 20 years. And that’s reality, Bobcat. :D

  2. Inflation is just awful, not long ago $6,000 worth of illegal drugs would have needed a coat and pants to be transported.

  3. The investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible…….nothing like giving Fitzsimmon’s connections a heads up! Well played BDN and Crandall…..well played!

    1. Do you think if they were concerned about that there would be ANYTHING in the paper yet? Guessing that guys goose may already be cooked too.

    1. HAHAHAHA! You think this is gonna close down the drug store?? When he was in prison before, his girlfriend kept the business going. And she’ll do it again. She doesn’t have a legit job, but she does have bills. Just how do you think they are getting paid? And when one drug store “closes” down, two more open up. Even if she lays low for a while, someone will be selling for her.

  4. I have a very hard time believing these pills sell for $50 each on the streets. I’m not really up on “street values” but that sounds ridiculously high.
