HANCOCK, Maine — This month, Ellsworth officers trained with new handguns, fourth-generation Glock Model 22 .40-caliber pistols. The department recently replaced all the officers’ sidearms, some of which were 17 years old.
“These guns are out every day we work, in the weather, while we’re wrestling people to the ground,” Ellsworth Police Officer Kelvin Mote said in an interview Wednesday. “After a while, they need replacing.”
The new model Glocks have some advantages over the third generation, Mote said. They’ve got a rail under the barrel, to which a flashlight can be attached, freeing up an officer’s hand at night. They’ve also got molded, customizable grips, which can be adjusted to fit different hand sizes.
The new guns cost only $140 per unit, after the old firearms were traded in for credit, according to Police Lt. Harold Page. That’s $2,380 for all 17 guns purchased by the department.

gen 3 glock 22 have a rail. the grips and trigger group retention pins are the major changes between gen3/gen4
The mag release can be changed to left handed and they have the new recoil spring assembly that copies the Springfield XD design. Both are great improvements.
and they got a heck of a trade in…..17 y/o gun and $140 for a new gen 4 glock…very nice.
glock perfection!
It is hard to believe gen 3 is over a decade old. Mine was a 2008. My old man has a 85′ production glock imported from austria from when he was a cop, still runs like a champ just less bells and whistles.
forgot about that. though as a former xd owner I was not a fan of the recoil assembly until about 600 rounds in until it broke in, I found it very difficult to replace after field stripping.
Didn’t know the mag release was reversible, neat feature. Glock doesnt fail to disappoint. I heard Gen5 will have a build in cappuccino machine.
The .40 S&W (or 10mm Short) is just a fad cartridge or for girls. Surprised that Ellsworth didn’t jump on the even worse .45GAP bandwagon.
