AUBURN, Maine — A police standoff involving an Auburn man with a gun was resolved without injury Friday morning on North Auburn Road.
Dylan Brockway, 23, of 385 North Auburn Road, was arrested on two counts of criminal threatening with a firearm, according to Auburn Police Chief Phil Crowell.
Police took Brockway into custody at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Brockway fired two shots in the air and one toward police, but police did not return fire, Crowell said.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said a Maine State Police tactical team was at the scene.
“It involves a young man having a very bad night,” McCausland said.
McCausland said the incident began at approximately 1 a.m. Auburn police went to the scene and attempted to negotiate with the man. They were joined a couple of hours later by members of the tactical team.
Brockway lived in the home with his grandmother. She was not in the house during the standoff, Crowell said.
During the standoff, police blocked off sections of nearby roads, including Hersey Hill Road. WGME reported that North Auburn Road was shut down from Lakeshore Drive to West Auburn Road.
Early reports were that the man was seen holding a gun and talking to a woman as the first officers arrived.

That was my first thought too. If he suffers from an undiagnosed (or untreated) mental condition though, that may be the reason behind it. Doesn’t excuse the behavior, but explains why you or I wouldn’t do this, but he did. I hope this young man gets whatever help he may need.
There are probably too many to count. The problem is this guy made a very bad decision and probably didn’t know how to get out of it once he did. At least no one got hurt, and that is hopefully to everybody’s credit including the kid with the gun. Yes, I said kid, he is less than half my age and just a couple of years older than my own kids.
He should have been mature enough not to pick up the gun, but we don’t know the reason he did so. Maybe his intention was to hurt himself and he was scared into threatening others. I am glad the conflict was resolved peacefully. Let’s not judge too harshly until we know the whole story. I have no idea whether or not the young man has been in trouble before but I hope the courts will treat him accordingly.
At 23 he’s not a kid. He’s old enough to know better. He fired one shot in the Officers position.He’s very stupid but lucky.
At 23, maybe he should know better, but many young male brains are still very much in development at this age. Combine that with the peak age for testosterone, and picking up a gun is less a choice than an impulse. A poor one, but an impulse. I hope the young man realizes this had a much better outcome than it could have. Kudos to the cops for taking him peacefully.
