BINGHAM, Maine — A Skowhegan man was hospitalized with leg injuries Wednesday after his motorcycle left Route 201, according to police.

Robert Carey Jr., 23, failed to negotiate a curve and dumped his bike, according to Lt. Carl Gottardi of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

The motorcycle, which was demolished, was unregistered, Gottardi said.

Gottardi said speed is a likely factor in the accident. Carey was taken to Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan before being transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of a leg fracture.

Carey was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Gottardi said. Charges could be filed, pending a review by the district attorney’s office.
