Cynthia Dill, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, says it’s an incredible honor to be running for office. She can’t wait to be a working mother of two high school students, on the floor of the Senate, advocating for the environment, education, working families and peace. She says it will be hard work, but that’s the story of her life.

  1. Can’t wait to be a workng mother? Her income leads me to believe she has not worked in some time….why start now?

    1. She’s an attorney, like many politicians.  You seem to think that being a Senator is not ‘”work”.  Note that she said she can’t wait to be a working mother … in the Senate.

      1. I was simply saying that her income seems to show that she has not been working in some time….I know she is an attorney, but not a working attorney?

  2. Dill, is ,well, putting it mildly, nuts. Her own party cannot stand her. Sorry Dill, you are about 90 degrees too far to the left.

    1. Insults with no evidence.  You’re making Republicans look bad (whether you’re GOP or not).

I think it should be pointed out that Dill is a pro-woman candidate, whereas the leader of the Republicans, Mitt Romney is still endorsing Mourdock, who recently associated rape with God’s will.  The Tea Party extremists, who talk about “legitimate rape” are solidly part of the GOP.  Romney is too much of a coward to say anything against them, or he agrees with them.

      1. When you say “pro women” it makes YOU look bad.  Do you think Summers and King are ANTI- woman?  This pro woman thing is such a farce.

        1. This society has a long way to go before equality for women is truly achieved.  Thanks for helping to show that.

          1. YOu keeping up with the wage disparities in white collar employment? Seems like roles are reversed, women get the big bucks and the man stays home and raises the kids. For many in Maine, there is no equality and it’s men who are getting shortchanged.

      2. Liberals love the abortion issue..conservatives would like to preserve life.liberals want gay marriage conservative men want to marry women.I do not get your logic

        1. The only consistent GOP agenda is to arrest women who have abortions for 1st degree murder and jail them for life or execute them for premeditated homicide.  It’s murder, right, on your view?  Or  is the preborn actually less of a human than you or I?  Which is it?

The real agenda here is keeping men in charge and keep women controlled.

          1.  Don’t forget the murderers like Roeder and Salvi.Dill is exactly what Maine and every state needs.

    2. Maybe you should consider that if King wasn’t running, Dill would be demolishing Charlie in the polls.  She would have the votes King has now plus what she has from her supporters. So I guess that makes Chaplie more than mildly nuts.  He would lose either way.

  3. Dill is just raising her profile for another run in the future. Angus will walk away with this one.

  4. Its funny how after Tuesdays debate here in Waterville her twitter
account stated  Great candidates forum tonight in Waterville. You heard
    it here first:
Woods and other “independents” will endorse Angus now. Ho hum …  Latter after I stated Andrew Ian Dodge would never drop out a new tweet with just Daltons and Woods name appeared.  Seems to me she is now facing losing 3rd place to Dodge and others…

  5. In 1972 I registered as a Democrat and voted for the first time – for the late George McGovern. The recent passing of that great Democrat brought back memories of the idealism and the excitement of those times. Now, I often wonder what has happened to that Democratic Party, as we seem to have lost the courage of our convictions.

In 2012, Maine Democrats have the opportunity to send Cynthia Dill- a young, aggressively progressive woman to the US senate. Instead, through some seeming telepathic group-think, we Democrats seem to have decided that the not-so-young Angus King, a right-leaning  1%er is a better choice, not because of his stand on the issues, but because we telepathically agreed he could beat Summers.

If we Democrats are serious about initiating the changes that will enable our nation to be the kind of society that we have always professed to want, then we need to have courage that our convictions are electable. And we need to elect the candidate that most accurately reflects our collective values. For this old Democrat, that candidate is NOT Angus King. That candidate is Cynthia Dill.

I hope my fellow Democrats will consider casting their ballot for the candidate that we, as Democrats, would all prefer to have represent our state. Remember the “they can’t win” philosophy is a self fulfilling one.

Stop the trend of sending the same corporate party members to Congress. Democrats for Dill in 2012

    1. Angus King “right leaning”? Wow, what’s the atmospheric composition on your planet? Personally I’m voting for Dill as I support my party (too bad the national DNC isn’t) but thats a really out there comment; if King was running as Democrat I’d vote for him, but not as an independent.

      1. That’s a first for me  – being insulted by a fellow Democrat who is voting for the same candidate as I.

I believe I can educate you without being insulting.

        Angus King:

favors keeping the Bush tax cuts for wealthy Americans
        favors the Keystone pipeline
favors repealing the ban on assault weapons.
voted NUMEROUS times against raising the minimum wage in Maine
favors Simpson Bowles – that caps medicare
        against single payer healthcare
        vetoed family-leave laws

These are a few reasons why I labeled King “right leaning.” There are many more. If you don’t think he qualifies for that description, that’s fine, but it might be better if you give some reasons to support your views instead of insulting someone who is on the same side as you.

I’m glad you are sticking with our party and voting for Dill.

          1. What assessment are you disagreeing with?

You’ve stated elsewhere that you don’t think Angus is moderate – he’s just “pretending to be”.

I’m not sure why you’re so critical of my views, since we’re we’re voting for the same person.
I would suggest to you that we breath in the same “atmospheric composition”!

            Just my opinion.

            Have a nice day.

          2. Sorry, he is not a moderate, he’s a lefty  – left of center is not a moderate in my views. And there is no atmosphere on my planet because you all have been trolled.

      2. Angus King is what he says he is: a moderate independent.  12 days out, with the race between King & Summers this close, a vote for Dill is aiding and abetting Karl Rove and the Tea Party.  That is the political reality of this race.  Dill will not even pull the percentage of votes that Libby Mitchell did.

        1. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Just a couple of thoughts about the points you make.

I have always said that if Summers sneaks in, it’s not because Democrats voted for Dill, it’s because they deserted their party and voted for King. To me the prevailing wisdom on this topic is backwards – Democrats should stick with their candidate. If King was not in this race, I believe Dill would beat Summers fairly easily, as she would if Democrats would just “stay home”.

I will respond to your comment about “aiding and abetting Rove and the TP” by pointing out that if we so – called liberals really wanted to counter balance Rove and the TP we’d send Dill to the Senate and not King. Really that is the only way to to negate the neoconservative movement.  We will never effectively undo the damage the TP is doing by sending people like King to the Senate.

          Just my opinion.

          1. I hear what you’re saying, but I have maintained that if King had not announced his candidacy, Dill would not even BE the Democratic nominee.  It would be probably be Pingree or Michaud.  Dill can’t hold the base because she’s a “B Team” candidate.  The “Big Guns” were run off by King, because they knew he is a popular, highly respected moderate that could hold the center and draw both moderate Ds and moderate Rs.
I feel that both parties going to their fringe is not the answer.  The answer is in the center.  I’m with King all the way.

          2. Thank the National DNC for the not supporting their own candidate, I feel a change at the DNC is needed, Wasserman-Schultz has deserted our state democratic party.

        2. Sorry, but I always vote for my party IRREGARDLESS; King will win anyway because his left of center base has deserted the Democratic party – he is no moderate, he just parades around pretending to be.

          1. Agreed and well said!

I do believe you are now agreeing with my previous assessment – that Angus is a right leaning moderate.

But you DID say it better.

          2.  Um… voting along party lines is what got us in this mess. Vote for the best choice. If it were Dill, King, Cohen, as a Dem I would still vote for Cohen because he would best represent Maine and its people. The letter at the end of a candidate’s name is not any reflection on their ability to lead. This argument is getting harder and harder to make because of the polarization of politics that is getting way out of hand and holding the process of governing hostage. This time it is the Republicans doing the hostage holding, but the roles could easily be reversed with a Republican president and Dem Congress.

Oh and use “regardless” next time, adding the negative prefix “ir” to an already negative word makes all the Grammar Hilter’s go nutty.

          3. Sorry, but party comes first, that is the only way to advance our principles. Also  thank you for being the Grammer Hitler yourself.

    2. While I despise lesser evilism politics and never discourage people from voting their conscience, it  requires no telepathy to understand that if King and Dill voters split, Summers could win. LePage obviously owes his seat to those who went down with the sinking SS Libby.

Progressives to counter the regressives makes sense – though moderates are in greater need in DC than any other political orientation. King might not be what I describe as centrist, though is closer to center than either Dill or Summers. Pushing the poles further left (and right) is not a long term winning formula.

      1. Agree.  As far as I am concerned Dill is just about as worthless as Summers.  She cares nothing for northern Maine.  She backs Quimby.  That’s enough for me.  Especially when I questioned her about a National Pasrk a couple of years ago and asked her if she had ever been in northern Maine.  She then ignored the question. That usual means you’ve got them in an uncomfortable position.  King needs to win this and I believe he will.  Summers is a disaster for Maine and the counry

        1. My take on Quimby is rather neutral – I believe people should be able to do what they want with their property, whether it is deemed selfish by the public or not, granted it is within the law. What’s your biggest beef with Quimby rox?

          1. Having lived up north I know how important the woods are to everyone up there.  Traditional use is blocked by Quimby.  Her only purpose for buying property is to create a national park.    Southern Maine has to get over the fact that most people in northern Maine hunt  and fish.  The paper companies worked with people for access.  She for the most part blocks access.  And jobs?  What king of jobs will a park bring?  Minimum wage jobs, that’s what.  We already have Baxter with the crown jewel of Katahdin.  Bowdoin has a land grant up there that is accessible.  What are we going to a national park to see?   Quimby thinks she is preserving the woods.  Mainers know how precious they are already.  We have been taking care of them for a long time.  Mainers want to use the woods for traditional uses.  We will make sure they survive.  And before going off on clear cutting….  um, there are how many paper mills left?

And yes if she owns it it is hers to do with what she wants. But at the pace she is spending her millions buying it up she needs to not be trusted.

          2. I’ll be honest, though I’ve always enjoyed nature and wild places, I’ve never been what you’d call an outdoorsman, so I clearly don’t have the same personal ties to these lands as someone who has used them all their lives.

It certainly seems to me as if some compromise could be worked out, though I gather that her (lack of) willingness to compromise is part of the discord.

          3.  Your right she has a right to do with her property as she wants. I have no say. But when she talks about giving it to the Fed. Gov. I now have a say. NO PARK.

      2. Sad, thanks for your response.

My thought is that if you despise “lesser evilism politics” then don’t participate in it. Vote for the candidate that most accurately reflects your values. For me, that is definitely NOT Angus.

Again, I am an “old” democrat. The Democratic Party that I joined all those decades ago was WAY more liberal than the one today. I, for one, am sick of “moderates”. But I guess it’s all about perspective. To a younger voter I guess King is a liberal. To me he’s just the same old mush.

        1. So I take it you’re not a big Obama fan and will be voting for Stein perhaps? Obama is by no means a liberal’s liberal.
While I lean left of center, I see the growing polarization and partisanship in America as our biggest threat. It’s like an arms race going on. Somehow this needs to be defused. Far left and far right reps have their place, though when they become the majority, nothing gets done.

          1. You are correct.

            I dislike Obama.

But then, I am an old, behind the curve Democrat who clings to their time-worn ideals like they were guns or religion……….

          2. So, do tell – who was your candidate back in 2008?

The man I wanted wasn’t in the running, though I suspect that you might have found Russ Feingold a very favorable candidate as well.

It is my genuine hope that he enters the field in 2016.

          3. Actually, I caucused for Nader. I was the only Dem in the room to do so and it was maybe a bit awkward. But you know, I’m just clinging to those delusions that maybe we could actually REDUCE the pentagon budget instead of increasing it every year. Silly, pinko-commie, unpatriotic stuff like that.

Y’know Sad, Democrats used to care about things like that, but today it seems not-so-much. (re: Angus)

In the general I ended up voting for Obama.

Like many who did, I’m disappointed.

            Yes, Feingold. Absolutely.

          4. It’s not unpatriotic or silly, it’s common sense based – pragmatic. Our current spending levels are not only irrational from a numbers perspective, but have little to do with actual “defense”.

Though the GOP is still the undisputed home of the war loving, macho nationalists, those on the right with the sentiment that defense spending needs to be reigned in, is a growing demographic – one that can be attributed to another favorite of mine, Ron Paul.

I have hope that more common sense approaches to defense and foreign policy could be coming. Though it will have to be gradual.

King is not going to be the man to take down the MIC, though mongering for war with the Republicans, I don’t envision either.

    3. I understand what you are saying, but being an “old” democrat myself, I do not accept the notion that same sex marriage will some how benefit societies family. Accepting extreme sexual behavior under the canopy of  personal freedom is a disaster waiting to happen.  Humans can use their powers of speech to convince others that a rock can be turned into a marshmallow, but nature will refuse to “obey.” Dill and the mega liberals are to extreme for me, so I will vote for King, then Obama as the lesser of two evils.

    4. Corporate party members do not belong to Roxanne Quimby.  Remember that Dill is an aggressively progressive candidate from away with ideas from away that do not represent the good natives of Maine.   I would conclude that she is dangerousle progressive rather than aggressively progressive.  King on the other hand is aggressive at stuffing his wallet !  I’ll support some one else .

      1. You have an idealisticviewpoint of politics.  Who do you know running for public office that isn’t trying to stuff their pockets?

    5. Regarding “Stop the trend….,” One wonders whether people actually want the big dogs to pee on them, that it somehow enriches their lives.  The late Joe Bageant once mentioned that if it comes down on them from the suites on the upper floors (the places they all wish they could be), they think it’s rain!”

    6. “through some seeming telepathic group-think, we Democrats seem to have decided that”

We’ve known that such a mysterious telepathic group think exists, but I would describe it more like a “twilight bark” since it’s onset is literally the evening or two before the election.    The phenomenon was most recently exhibited in the Maine Gubernatorial contest, where last-minute twilight barks to dump the Democrat candidate so Cutler could prevent LePage from winning, fell a little bit short.

Stringah,  this time your Democrat voters are more likely to be randomized, with about half group-thinking to favor King, about half group-thinking to favor Dill.    Not only are Republicans the thinking constituency, they have not diluted their choices.

      1. While there are many die hard partisans in the Maine Democrat party that vote the party line no matter what, the Republicans easily have them topped when it comes to strength of partisanship. Though evidence of “thinking”, it’s certainly not  – obedience perhaps.

        1.  Or self preservation.    Maine’s best chance of remedying its welfare state mentality is tied to the coming Republican majority on the national level.    Maine’s natural resource based industries and favorable manufacturing potential (lower labor costs compensate for logistical disadvantages) are poised to benefit from a Romney administration.  That portends better than merely competing for #1 welfare status, which is what a continuation of Democrat leadership will surely bring us.

          1. Democrats have a spending/debt issue, there’s no doubt, though the GOP’s laundry list of problems also includes fiscal irresponsibility, albeit a different brand.

If the GOP would cast off their socially backward thinking troglodytes, stop talking nonsense about socialism and adopt an actually conservative and logic based foreign policy, I’d personally be more than willing to consider backing them.

The more reasonable Republicans, such as our current senators and candidate Raye may not agree with all on every issue, but they are palatable to the majority.

Maine is willing to send Republicans to DC clearly. But they need to be of the moderate variety. Summers can only hope King and Dill knock each other off  – it’s clear that he has no hope of winning a majority vote and everyone knows it.

    7. I’m with you 100%.   Should Summers become our next U.S. Senator, it will be because Democrats abandoned their Party values.  I guess people didn’t learn their lesson with the LePage fiasco – people need to vote for the candidate whose vision they adhere to.  There are no perfect candidates, but I know that Dill’s views are closest to my own, thus she gets my vote.

Why would anyone vote for a man who refuses to discuss his own platform or ideas?

      1. Thanks Patsy!

And your last sentence says it all. It’s distressing that our fellow Democrats don’t realize that we might be sending someone to Congress who ends up not even supporting the Democratic Party. You know who comes to mind?

        Joe Lieberman!

  6. The country cannot afford the type of Democrat Dill represents – the big government free spending liberal. The type that hopefully will be cosigned to the dustbin of of history.

      1. I take offense that you have associated me with the right wing nut cases who make up the tea party. Perhaps we should associate you with the taker class that elects those who will continue to provude them a free ride in life. My statement rings true that Dill’s brand of liberalism is on the way out as the country cannot afford it.

    1. King is in his own pocket  Dill belongs to Roxanne Quimby.  One will rape the countryside the other will create a national park !

  7.  Cynthia is from my home town and I have even talked to her, politely, but not revealing that I would not support her candidacy.  A political opportunist, Dill rose through a series of vacancies and special elections, going from a position on a small town council to a Senate position in the Legislature in merely a handful of years.    The liberal elite regard running for office as feathering one’s cap.    I guess it’s not surprising that one of Howie Carr’s “beautiful people” could attract the Democrat Party’s vote in the primary.  I expect that Dill will pull enough votes from King to allow Summers to win.  Yes, they’ll do it again.

    1. You’re wrong on many accounts Fred and this one adds to the list. Number one on the list is the arrogant condescending air bag Carr.

  8. King , Dill and Obama represent more of the same………Spend , spend , spend and let future generations pay the bill !  This is irrisponsable government at best and can not go on if America and it’s freedoms are to survive !

  9. We already know the vitriol and hatred that Democrats direct at Conservatives and Republicans but, they have no qualms about  visiting the same toxic hatred on “one of their own.”  I don’t know how Ms. Dill can remain a member of such a treacherous mob.

    1. Not true!  I have corresponded with Dill and think she’s a fine person with good intentions.  Her timing is wrong though.  with King in the race, she has been put at a disadvantage.  A vote for her at this time is a vote for Charlie.  I would vote for one of the local bartenders before I would vote for Charlie.  They have a better grip on the will of the people and, quite frankly probably have a better educational background.  If Dill was to run for governor in a couple of years, I would support her 100%.

      1. I tended bar for 12 years. It doesn’t take a higher education to sling drinks.  The biggest challenge for a bartender is shutting off a hanger-on who thinks he should get preferential treatment because he’s a regular and has plenty of money to feed his appetite. I was an excellent bartender and I didn’t have a degree of any kind and I hadn’t served in Afghanistan.

  10. Ah, the Dem’s.  I was just reading about one running near Disgusta who is getting her PhD in “Victimology.”  Perfect!

KJ: “Boivin is a 2002 graduate of the University of Maine and get her law
degree from the University of Maine School of Law. She’s working on a
Ph.D. from the Bangor Theological Seminary, where she’s studying
    criminal psychology and victimology.”

    1. perhaps if you had been robbed, then beaten near death, you might have learned that in both criminal and civil law there really are victims.

I think it is a rarity among lawyers to find one who cares about victims, instead of just collecting binders from people, then dilly-dallying with their cases to pad their overinflated bills.

      1. We have been crime victims, so spare me your condescension.  Victimology has become an industry, especially in the family violence clique.    One must have compassion for victims but people are more than a diagnosis and there’s a  a lot to be said for resilience and stoicism.  And faith in God, but we know how Dems feel about that. Many people who pretend to be advocates can  be control  freaks who rob people of their own voice and strength because it makes them feel better about themselves.  It may not be true here but we’ve certainly seen it..

        1.  you are the one who is condescending to a young female lawyer who wants to help victims, rather than victimize people like so many other lawyers do.   You obviously know nothing about therapy or what a good therapist can accomplish.  Don’t try to learn anything – education is obviously a bad thing in your world.

  11. Charlie Summers-
    Opposes the ObamaCare Mandate
Has served our country as a member of the military
Opposes the Obama supported Quimby National Park
He has actual history of helping small business in Maine
He is genuinely committed to restoring Maine’s manufacturing base
He is the only one of the three that can go to Washington and get to work on day one..!

    Angus King-
He left the State of Maine in a mountain of debt
He is tied with Mike Michaud for doing absolutely nothing to help small business
His history of working with green groups has always taken priority over “everything”
King is a well connected, well financed greenie, who has no intention of increasing manufacturing in Maine.

    Cynthia Dill-
Dill “actually” wants to tax the internet…!
Dill isn’t willing to sit still until she bans all gun ownership
As a mindless Quimby minion, Dill has managed to totally offend those North of Bangor
Her views of unionizing, and controlling every aspect of free markets borders on Communism
She has no interest, history or track record of actual economic development, and has never attempted to reach out to the businesses in Northern Maine

          1. Who’s Un-American
*Anyone that supports ObamaCare is Un-American-
*Anyone that would force union inclusion is Un-American-
*Anyone that would pull down a hydro dam is Un-American-
*Anyone that has abandoned small business is Un-American-
*Anyone that has a tax & spend liberal entitlement history is Un-American-
*Anyone that would force a National Park in a time of near depression conditions is Un-American

Out of all three, only Charlie Summers & Dill have come to Millinocket in the past 12 months— Charlie Summers to meet with his base and Dill to insult anyone that disagreed with her support for the Quimby National Park…!

            Vote Summers 2012

  12. Ms Dill is such a non-player in this election that her positions on issues have not been as closely examined like Summers and King. She is non-electable based on many factors, but one of the largest is that she is openly anti-2nd ammendment. She would lock-step with Pelosi and Reid and Boxer and Fienstein et.al., if ever given the opportunity. In this state, this position alone will keep her out of Washington AND out of the Blaine House.

  13. I am amazed about the Tea Republican Senators Races in Indiana and Missouri where Rape is OK with Republicans. Now these Baptist, Evangelicals Tea Republicans claim that Rape is OK with GOD and his plan. Ryan is right in bed with these Rape is OK Republican Senatorial Candidates. Who are these sick, perverted Republicans to put words in GODS Mouth that Rape is fine and that God Wills It. There is Romney, endorsing these sick, perverted Republicans that God says Rape is his plan.
