MILINOCKET – MILLINOCKET – Joan M. Monahan, 73, wife of the late Willard “Bill” Monahan died Oct. 26, 2012 at her home with her children by her side after a 10 year battle with cancer. Joni was born Feb. 11, 1939, in Millinocket, to the late Reginald and Ina (Harriman) Crawford.
She was a lifelong resident of Millinocket graduating from Stearns High School, class of 1957. On Oct. 12, 1957, she married the love of her life, Bill, and they had 53 wonderful years together until his death in 2011. Joni loved all of her family and many friends and was always there for them. She worked for the Millinocket School Lunch Program for many years and was a lifelong resident of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her three children, Holly and Jimmy Hartley of Mattawamkeag, Patrick of Orono, and Ryan and Lori of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Casey, Sara, Kara, Grant, Gentry, Gradyn and Gavin; four great-grandchildren, Owen, Joseph, Micah and Meah; three sisters, Virginia Olsen of Brewer, Pat and Jim Harvey of Old Town, and Diane and Paul Noddin of East Millinocket; in-laws, Laird and Gail Monahan of Dade City, Fla., Shirley Fisher of Rochester, N.Y., Mary Monahan of Lewiston; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, David Monahan; brother, Reginald “Junior” Crawford; sister, Ida Rodgers; brothers-in-law, Fred Olsen Sr., Donis Rogers, Robert Monahan, and Eugene Monahan; sister-in-law, Marge Monahan; and nephews, Fred Olsen Jr. and Robert Rogers.
A celebration of her life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Millinocket, with the Rev. Robert W. Landry presiding. All donations in her name can be sent to Cancer Care of Maine in Brewer, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, or the Katahdin Area Support Group, Millinocket.
