ORONO, Maine — The woman suspected of robbing the Circle K store on Stillwater Avenue on Sept. 9 was arrested Friday at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.
Shayna Hill-Pelkey, 22, of Greenbush was taken into custody on a felony robbery warrant when she showed up at the courthouse after an Orono detective informed her that she was wanted on a warrant, Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said Friday.
Ewing said the robbery charge was elevated to Class A status because she allegedly indicated she was armed, although no weapon was displayed. If convicted, Hill-Pelkey faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
Ewing said Orono police were able to identify Hill-Pelkey as the suspect because of tips that came in from the public after surveillance images were released via local media outlets.
In a statement issued shortly after the robbery, Orono police Detective Derek Dinsmore said the incident happened about 1:38 a.m. Sept. 9, when a woman walked into the convenience store and displayed a note demanding all of the cash in the register and a pack of cigarettes. The note indicated that she had a weapon.
Dinsmore said at the time that the robber made off with a pack of Marlboro Red shorts and cash.
Ewing said Friday that it was a small amount of cash.

Might as well turn her loose – a judge surely will.
Few people understand the psychology of dealing with an Orono detective who evidently didn’t bring the warrant with him. Your normal accused robber will panic and immediately proceed to the courthouse to be arrested. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. Make the b—–d chase you! He will follow.
… Man, I miss Hunter S. Thompson. He would have made this election season bearable.
We can’t stop here – this is bat country!
A little over dressed for September ain’t she… Oh wait no one will notice and I will just hand a note that says “I need money to buy a tank top cause this coat is really warm and heavy. Oh yeah don’t forget my cigarettes.” LOL…Well won’t need more Marlboro cause no more smoking in jail. But remember to take your jacket in case it is cold in the prison yard.
Hmmm… small amount of cash and pack of cigarettes… let her go… she’ll be back on bigger charges!
You don’t really ‘nab’ someone who walks through the door on their own.
“Hill-Pelky faces up to thirty years in prison and a fine of $50.000.oo.”…..well, maybe in a state with a real criminal justice system.
The reality is, IF she is convicted, the poor, socio-economically depressed, victim of society, will get three years will all but time served suspended and probation for two years, and oh well, let’s just skip the $50K fine.
