PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are distributing images of men they believe stole more than $60,000 worth of copper from Central Maine Power Co. facilities in the city.
Over the past three months, CMP has reported several copper thefts from the electric company’s Portland locations, according to a police department statement on Friday afternoon.
Detectives are circulating surveillance camera images they believe show the thieves during one of their alleged heists, in hopes that members of the public may be able to identify the men who appear in the pictures.
“During the investigation, a number of photo images were captured of suspects in the act of removing copper wire from a Central Maine Power supply yard,” the Friday announcement states, in part.
Anyone with information about the case is being asked to call the Portland police at 874-8526. Anonymous tips can be provided using the number 874-8584, through the department’s website or by texting the keyword GOTCHA along with the tip to 274637.
$ 60,000 will buy lots of snarling German Sheppards.
The new hires dont mind working nights or holidays.
Cold weather doesnt bother them much.

And dont get “bad backs”.

The scrap yards had to know something was wrong when they brought in some of that brand new wire.
Many years ago, I lived in San Jose Ca. There were 3 scrap yards. All required to show your drivers licence and recorded what you brought in to recycle. If it seemed unusual, the police were contactd. Would this be an unreasonable step to take to slow this down?
