Billie graduated from Manual Training High School, class of 1944. After graduation she went to work at Brooklyn Navy Yard during World War II. It was in Brooklyn, N.Y., while roller skating that she met the love of her life, Robert Earle Marshall from Trenton, when he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for a year after Earle was discharged, he then asked her to leave friends and family and her beloved Brooklyn, N.Y., to return to “Gods country” in early 1947. Billie reluctantly agreed. They were together until his death 47 years later. Billie was an active member of St. Saviour’s Parish, Bar Harbor, for 65 years, past vestry member, chair of the Memorial Committee and member of several search committees. She was a lifetime member of Kebo Valley Club and served as secretary and longtime board member. Billie was also a member of the Mount Desert Island Hospital Auxiliary, Acadia Women’s Investment Club, fun loving member of the Seabury Club and most recently the WOBBITS.
