ELLSWORTH, Maine — Residents here elected Stephen Beathem and Robert Crosthwaite in a three-way race for two city council seats.
Crosthwaite, a former councilor and House District 38 representative, collected 2,202 votes; Beathem, an incumbent councilor, raked in 1,965 votes. They defeated Marc Blanchette, owner of Windsor Chairmakers Inc., who received 1,852 votes.
Beathem was running for re-election. The other council seat was made vacant in June, when former councilor Matthew Boucher left Ellsworth to take a job promotion in North Conway, N.H. Councilors on Aug. 20 declared his seat vacant for reasons of ineligibility and abandonment.
In a race for a seat on Regional School Unit 24’s board of directors, Ellsworth voters chose Dawn Ihle Hudson over Casey E. Hardwick, 1,746 to 1,466.
Ellsworth residents cast 3,966 ballots for a voter turnout of 71 percent, according to City Clerk Heidi Grindle.
