WATERVILLE, Maine — Police say a car that crashed off Webb Road early Saturday killing its driver likely reached speeds of more than 80 mph. Alcohol also is believed to have been a factor in the crash that killed Estanislao Garcia, 24, of Oakland, police say.
Sgt. Dan Goss of the Waterville Police Department said a passerby called in the crash at 1:20 a.m., but it was unclear when it occurred.
“We don’t know the time frame,” he said. “It’s a rural area,” and traffic may have been light at that hour before the passenger in the vehicle flagged down a car.
Goss said the 2013 Subaru WRX left the roadway, struck a pole and snapped it in half. The impact spun the car around and it struck another pole, cracking it lengthwise about halfway up, he said.
Sgt. Mike Pion of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Department reconstructed the crash scene, Goss said, and preliminary findings estimated the speed of the car at over 80 mph.
The passenger, Mitchell Lougee, 24, of Nashua, N.H., was injured and transported by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
It was unclear whether either man was wearing a seatbelt, Goss said.
I wonder how fast he was going considering that car is very powerful and can do over 150mph.
doubtful that the passenger was taken from waterville all the way to bangor by ambulance without first going to one of the waterville hospitals.
