HOPE, Maine — A 49-year-old Hope man was arrested Wednesday night for operating under the influence after he was rescued from his wrecked vehicle.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday that it responded to a call of a vehicle that had rolled over on Hatchet Mountain Road in Hope about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Upon arrival, Deputy David Johnson saw the lone occupant of the vehicle, later identified as Daniel Dodge, 49, of Hope, standing in the vehicle, unable to get out because the vehicle was on its side.

Dodge had lost control of the vehicle at the sharp corner in the road near Payson Path, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Tim Carroll.

Members of the Hope Fire Department and Camden First Aid assisted in getting Dodge out of the vehicle. He then was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Once treated for minor injuries and then released, Dodge was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence and operating a motor vehicle while his license was suspended, according to the chief deputy. Dodge then was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland where, once processed, he was released on bail.

Dodge’s first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 30.

  1. Sad,Some people never learn. Driving after suspension while drunk. I wonder what the suspension was for? I can guess but I won’t. The laws have to be changed to find a way to keep these Drunks off our roads before they kill someone else.

  2. His son, Dan dodge the second already did kill someone my best friend Katie Kelly age 17 and my little sister Mysti Leach age 14 on November 8th 2010 from a car accident in Hope from drinking and driving. I will never forget the day i found out! I am so sick of drunks and them killing innocent people from there stupid mistakes of drinking and driving, but not only that, SPEEDING is another factor people need to learn also not to do because that is a killer aswell. This guy should be put away after all the time hes crashed drunk! So sick of it!

    1. First, I am very sorry for your loss. Second OUI is not a stupid mistake,it is an intentional act. Some of these people never learn and still drive when they have their licenses suspended. They penalties need to be stricter when it comes to OUI related deaths. It not only kills but it hurts the loved ones left behind as well.Again I am sorry for your loss.
