BELFAST, Maine — Local police said a trail of text messages recently led them to charge one man with making a false report and one woman with stealing oxycodone.
Police with the Belfast department originally investigated a report that Jessica Kelley, 22, of Frankfort had stolen prescription drugs on Oct. 19 from a 65-year-old man at the local Hannaford.
The man told officers that he and Kelley had arranged a meeting at the grocery store and that she then stole his pills when they met. He said he didn’t know why she wanted to meet him there in the first place, according to a report from the Belfast Police Department.
But after obtaining a search warrant to look through text messages exchanged by the duo, Belfast detectives learned the man, Glenn Reed of Lincolnville, had allegedly arranged to sell Kelley 25 of his oxycodone pills.
But instead of giving him money, she grabbed the pills and left the store, according to the police report.
Kelley was arrested and charged with the felony offense at the end of October after being interviewed by authorities. At the same time, Reed was charged with making a false public report, which is a misdemeanor offense.
Police waited until Wednesday to share information with the public, because it took a while for the phone companies to provide the text message content to police.

Dumb and dumber?
So much for the typical stereotypes surrounding the prescription drug problem. Also strikes me as kind of odd that this guy was not charged with intent to distribute. Felony to attempt to buy the drugs, but no charge whatsoever for trying to sell them? Seems to me they have things a bit backwards. But then again; it’s good business not to actually solve these problems…. Just ask Corrections Corporation of America…
Glenn Reed is a registered sex offender.
Oh, good. Just when I thought the story could not get any more depressing…
Blech.
Eh, they seem to have a very exclusive group, rapists, drug users, drug dealers, they all seem to just mesh together.
For raping someone. He also has been in trouble since then for arson and possesion of weapons.
Not just someone. Someone who was incapacitated with injury, was a relative and was about 7th grade. He is a sick man who needs to be given a lethal dose of his needed medicines.
Incapacitated with a diseased brain!! How long have we been supporting this loser?
I think you need to re-read my comment. I was talking about his victim, not him. He deserves to have some sort of accident!
And a drug dealer who called the cops when he got ripped off.
scumbuckets
The best writers in the television industry couldn’t top this one ! I thought politicians were bad , these 2 should run for office .
Two parasites.
Pretty good Police work!
You’re being sarcastic right…?
Actually no I was not being sarcastic. I was referring to the investigation that led to the charges. As you stated this incident was not stereotypical.
I agree with you 100% in that the charges should have been more severe.
excuse me, why does this man get a misdemeanor for filing a false report and not get a felony for trying to SELL his meds? If he were in his 20s he would have been charged. What’s the difference?
