BANGOR, Maine — A theft investigation led to drug charges being lodged against a Rockland man Thursday after police said they discovered he had bath salts on him.
Police went to Sears around 6 p.m. after a couple were reportedly seen taking tags off merchandise, according to Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt.
When Timothy Shaw, 28, and a woman he was with were confronted in the parking lot by Bangor police Officer Doug Smith, a routine pat-down of Shaw turned up a hypodermic needle and a bag of white powder, Hunt said.
The drug turned out to be the synthetic drug bath salts, the lieutenant said. Shaw and the woman did not have any merchandise in their possession.
Shaw was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a synthetic hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia and brought to Penobscot County Jail, Hunt said. The woman he was with was not charged with any crime.
Shaw remained in jail Friday morning.
