Thousands of Maine-made wreaths are beginning their journey to Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington and hundreds of other locations across the country and abroad.
A convoy of trucks was departing Sunday morning from Worcester Wreath Co. in Harrington with holiday greenery that will honor veterans at cemeteries and other locations.
The tradition started in 1992 when Morrill Worcester found himself with 5,000 wreaths that he couldn’t bring to market. He had them delivered to Arlington with the help of Sen. Olympia Snowe.
This year, about 100,000 of the balsam wreaths will arrive at Arlington by Friday, while another 300,000 of them are destined for veterans’ cemeteries and other locations elsewhere. All told, the nonprofit Wreaths Across America says wreaths are being shipped to more than 800 locations.
Edmund S. Muskie, former Governor, US Secretary of State, candidate for VP and President amongst other accomplishments. This man was not just a Lt., this man was an important figure in Maine’s and the United States’ history. It looks like the writer has never heard of him.
