BANGOR, Maine — A local man was charged with drunken driving Wednesday night after police say he hit a car, which ripped off his truck’s license plate, and then took off without stopping.

“When the plate falls off — you get caught,” Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said on Thursday.

Ivory K. Crump, 46, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a property damage accident after officers found him and his damaged 2006 Ford pickup truck at his home, the sergeant said.

A 39-year-old Corinna man was sitting in his 2000 Volkswagen Passat at the stoplight at the corner of Hammond and Ohio streets around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when Crump came up behind him and rear-ended his car, Edwards said.

“The license plate broke off and was found in the middle of the street,” the sergeant said.

Officer Tim Shaw ran the plate and got a local address for Crump. Officer Brandon Vafiades then went to Crump’s house.

“He looked to be intoxicated,” Edwards said of Crump.

Vafiades gave Crump a field sobriety test and then brought him to the police station for an Intoxilyzer test. He was charged with OUI at the station and then released, Edwards said.

  1. Did the police forget that he was involved in an accident and left the scene? The article states that he was only charged with OUI, why no charges for leaving the scene of a property damage accident?

  2. And released ????? Why, he could of easily killed someone. Vary confusing article, The Officer went to his home, was it in Corinna or Bangor ? Wasn’t the officer privileged to all the felonies, involved ? This doesn’t add up, officer Edwards. Does this fellow rent or is he actually a local homeowner as the article gives the impression he is? More charges to follow or will he be off the hook as it seems he may be ?
