FORT FAIRFIELD – Gary C. Thibeau, 74, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Dec. 11, 2012, at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born May 29, 1938, in Fort Fairfield, son of Clarence and Martha (Cote) Thibeau.
Gary was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1956 and went on to serve his country with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia, and also served with the Maine National Guard. Upon his discharge from the military, Gary returned to Fort Fairfield and was married to Kathleen Maunder. He engaged in potato farming with his father for many years and continued in the farming industry, working for Goughan Farms, Caribou, for several years; H.A. Pollack Potato Co., Fort Fairfield, for a number of years; and continued with his love of farming in his later years with Barry and Keith Thibeau Farms, Fort Fairfield. Gary will be remembered by all who knew him as a good neighbor and dedicated friend. He deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog, Tasha. He was an avid stock car racing fan, a sport that he shared with his sons. He will be truly missed. Gary was a lifelong communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield.
In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by one brother, David Thibeau; and one sister, Dianne M. Giberson. He is survived by three sons, Kirk J. Thibeau and wife, Cheryl, of Presque Isle, Sean E. Thibeau of Chapman and Troy P. Thibeau of Portland; three daughters, Julie L. Martin and husband, Steve, of Biddeford, Sonya A. Thibeau of Saco, and Kerry Patry and husband, Chris, of Waterboro; four brothers, Galen Thibeau of Caribou, Charles, Robert and Dana Thibeau, all of California; one sister, Cynthia Thibeau of Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren, Bradley and Ryan Thibeau of Bangor, Austin Thibeau of Presque Isle, Erin and Grace Martin of Biddeford, Logan Thibeau of Bangor, Kaitlin and Abigail Thibeau, both of Portland, Maxwell and Sophia Patry, both of Waterboro; former wife and friend, Kathleen Ellis of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the Mass at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
