DIXFIELD, Maine — A local man charged with felony assault Thursday night pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Friday in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris.

Timothy Shorey, 52, of Main Street, was released from Oxford County Jail on personal recognizance bail at about 2:30 p.m., Dixfield police Sgt. Jeff Howe said late Friday afternoon.

Howe said Dixfield police initially received a call at 3:15 p.m. Thursday that an assault had occurred at a Main Street address. An injured woman was taken by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital for treatment, he said.

Howe declined to specify the injuries.

Howe said when he got the call for help he was driving back to Dixfield from a grand jury proceeding in Paris, so he had Mexico police respond.

Lt. Roy Hodsdon responded, but couldn’t arrest Shorey on site, because the assault wasn’t considered domestic violence, Howe said.

He said he and Dixfield officer Eric Bernier began investigating the incident.

After going to Rumford Hospital to interview the victim, Howe said they returned to the scene by 8 p.m. and arrested Shorey, charging him with aggravated assault, a Class B felony.

Shorey couldn’t post $800 unsecured bail and was taken to the Paris jail that night, Howe said.
