MILLINOCKET – Evelyn “Nin” Hallett, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, surrounded by her loving family and wonderful caregivers at Katahdin Health Care. She was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Millinocket, the daughter of John G. and Celina M. (Milliard) Hallett.
Nin was a graduate of Stearns High School, class of 1953. She was a great athlete and played in many women’s leagues including softball, volleyball and bowling. Nin loved spending her summers at “camp” on the lake with her sister Ramona, surrounded by her big family. She was a vibrant, independent and lovable woman; and a special sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. Everyone has a “Nin story” or a special song or a favorite saying that she taught them. She showered all her nieces and nephews with laughter, humor, goodies and their own personal nickname. She is not someone who will be forgotten.
Nin is survived by her special niece and caregiver, Kelly Plourde and her husband, Jimmy, and son, Steven Preble; brothers, William Hallett and his wife, Sharon, Charles Hallett and his wife, Anne, and Edward Hallett and his wife, Bernadette; a brother-in-law, Robert Mackin, all of Millinocket; many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hallett; and sisters, Ramona Bouchard and Mae Mackin.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with Deacon Danny Watson officiating. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family 1 p.m. until the time of service. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Nin may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074 or Activity Fund at Katahdin Health Care, 22 Walnut St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
