OLD TOWN, Maine — Two people caught by police gutting a vacant Bennoch Road house for scrap metal in August were arrested again Sunday evening on charges of burglary, theft, criminal trespass and violation of a condition of release, according to police and the Penobscot County district attorney’s office.
Kristi R. Corliss, 19, of Argyle and Kyle Dubay, 22, of Old Town were on bail for the alleged incident in August when they were arrested at about 5 p.m. at the Mobil on the Run in Milford.
“This actually started back in November,” Old Town police Capt. Kyle Smart said Monday said of the incident leading to Sunday’s arrests.
A woman reported on Nov. 16 that Corliss and Dubay had visited her home, and later she returned home to find a window open and her DVD collection missing. The stolen movies showed up in town shortly afterward.
“They had taken the stolen items to a secondhand shop in town and sold them,” Smart said of Corliss and Dubay.
When found, both gave “various stories” about how they obtained the DVDs, the police captain said. Corliss and Dubay were both charged with felony burglary and theft by unauthorized taking, as well as violating their conditions of release.
Corliss and Dubay appeared Monday afternoon before District Court Judge Gregory Campbell on the new charges. He set Dubay’s bail at $750 cash and Corliss’ bail at $500 cash. Campbell also ordered that both be held without bail until Jan. 11, when a hearing is to be held on motions to revoke the bail on which they were released in August.
The couple and Jared M. Healey, 21, of Old Town were caught on Aug. 17 by Officer Lee Miller gutting the inside of the abandoned house on Bennoch Road, Smart said at the time.
Corliss, Dubay and Healey were indicted last month by the Penobscot County grand jury on one count each of burglary, theft by unauthorized taking, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
If convicted, each faces up to 10 years in prison on the most serious charge of burglary. Each defendant also faces a fine of up to $20,000 and could be ordered to pay restitution to the victims.

And were immediately released on personal bail, maybe? Lawd, I hope not. Well, they don’t set their sight very high and really don’t appear to be the brightest bulbs in the package, but they get a ‘C’ for persistence. Might nudge that up a bit by actually planning to get away with something for a change. One the real side, stealing CDs and selling them for a buck each rates right up there with ‘stemming’ spare change for a jug of Wild Irish Rose and a pack of generic smokes.
Says held until Jan 11th but also mentions their bail at $500 and $750? Maybe just a technicality. I’ve known of people stealing and selling “DVD” collections to buy junk but that was back 10+ years ago. That sort of crime is so 2001. Old Town really is years behind huh?
Judging from the pick-mark on their faces I’d say they are more behind the pipe than anything else :(
