LINCOLN, Maine — Three men used a chain saw to break into the home of a man they know Saturday night, then commenced to vandalize the place, Lincoln Police Chief William Lawrence said Monday.
“They had taken a stolen chain saw from another residence and sawed the front porch post and around the door to gain entrance,” the police chief said of Douglas J. Burrill Sr., 25, of Lee and Danforth residents and brothers Darrin N. Cobb, 25 and Ryan D. Cobb, 27.
Lawrence did not indicate who wielded the chain saw, but did say all three were charged with felony burglary. Once inside, the trio — who police think were intoxicated and possibly under the influence of drugs — damaged a flat-screen TV, urinated and vomited, Lawrence said.
“We’re looking at criminal mischief charges as well,” the police chief said.
When Darrin Cobb made his first court appearance before Superior Court Justice William Anderson on Monday, his bail was set at $500.
“This was basically mindless destruction of someone else’s property by three people who were extremely drunk,” Anderson said.
The local resident was away from home when he got a call Saturday night that someone was inside his house and he called police. Local officers, including arresting officer Officer Mark Fucile, assisted by Maine State Police Trooper Tom Fiske and Deputy Michael Knights of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, went to the house at about 7 p.m.
“They found two of the gentlemen … hiding in an upstairs bedroom closet,” Lawrence said.
The third suspect turned himself into police, he said.
Darrin Cobb’s criminal history includes convictions for carrying a concealed weapon, theft and criminal mischief, as well as a juvenile conviction for criminal threatening, Assistant District Attorney Brendan Trainor told the judge.
The bail for his brother, Ryan Cobb, who is on probation, was set at $1,000 cash, Anderson said, because he has a prior conviction for failure to appear. Trainor said Ryan Cobb also has a criminal history that includes convictions for criminal mischief, two counts of unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs and criminal trespass.
Bail for Burrill, who was charged with felony burglary and theft, was set at $500. He was convicted of disorderly conduct and sentenced in October to three days in jail, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. He also has another disorderly conduct conviction from 2010, the Bangor Daily News listings state.
All three remained in Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, a jail official said Monday afternoon.

They used a North Woods lock pick!
Ban them
I think the owner of the house should be able to destroy the place those fella’s live in and puke in their vehicles and wherever else they live or otherwise flop.
Totally disgusting………………………………………..
“Dang, it’s the cops! Quick, lets run upstairs and hide in a closet!!” ACK!
I wish the police had taken their picture, two grown men, hiding in a closet together trying to look inconspicuous. I bet they were spooning.
They were in the closet they might have been forking.
With audio, so we could hear one telling the other, “Put this dress on and tell ’em you live here! Hurry up!” =)
lol, ……bet they are sober now huh…..
It’s like Santa and his Elves gone bad and stupid.
Once upon a time, there was a Maine I remember, but what comes across these pages now, is so vile, I guess Maine has reached a new dimension. It was the people then, that made Maine, it is a fraction of the people now that are tarnishing a once quiet land.
Amen to that.
These 3 boys have a real bad past, and the brothers were caught once breaking into another house.
Not getting caught doesn’t seem to rate too highly with them ,either. Did ya say a combined IQ of about 100 between the three?
Your being to kind
It could be 200 between the three of them and they would still be “living on their own”. If that was one of my kids, they would have a long night of digging a size 14 Chippewa steel toed work boot out of their donut hole.
The 2 brothers are relatives of mine; they have been on drugs for as long as I can remember. Not a good future
SAD… they all have that look,. like burnt toast..Are we done yet?
And yet so many in our society want to legalize drugs. This would be the norm if they did.
Some people are very talented and creative sculpturing things with chain-saws…..others well, are not…
I can carve a beer cooler from wood with a chainsaw……Hollah..LOL
Sigh. I just want to go one day without seeing something in the regional news that makes me slap my forehead and ask, “Are you frickin’ kidding me?” Is that so wrong?
The two Cobb men learned their lesson’s well from their father, who has quite a record.
Gawd, I hope they never get their hands on a battery powered sawzall.
Well let’s see BDN will you finally open your eyes and see the light? Once again let us remind you… juvie records are NOT public record and I hope this is the last oops that is raked under the lumpy carpet with this reporter! That said these puking drunks need to be cut up with a dull chain saw and left for coyote Christmas Dinner.
Not if they’re doing the same stupid stuff as adults.
How did BDN get Juvenile records? If they are not public, they shouldn’t have them.
the chainsaw made them do it
Whomever the home owners were are lucky they weren’t home!! :/
Just a minor crime with minimal bail. If they were doing drugs and minding their own business the bail would have been much higher. I’ll never understand why we minimize crimes with actual victims and property loss.
Our prison system is filling up with felons of victimless crimes.
Time to put repeat offenders away for good . They probably missed church on Sunday morning too !
They are lucky the home owner wasn’t home and armed. Good reason to shoot their dumb…. for coming in with a chainsaw running. Mindless punks.
“They found two of the gentlemen … hiding in an upstairs bedroom closet,” Lawrence said.
GENTLEMEN????????
Well, they’re certainly not ladies…
Some of the other commentors seem to have their doubts about that too.
I’m no expert, I admit, but I’m 84% sure chainsaw forced entry is not ladylike behavior.
In Reply To……”ladylike behavior”………..
I’m not questioning anyone’s maleness, manhood or masculinity. What I’m questioning is the use of the word “GENTLEMEN” to describe these persons who enter someone elses house with a chainsaw and then trash the person’s home. “GENTLEMEN” is a term usually reserved to describe someone who is somewhat more refined.
I suspect the use of “gentlemen” was probably sarcasm on Chief Lawrence’s part, much like the crack about ladies was on mine.
I hear the homeowner is quite a peice of work too… And they all know each other… Wonder what this is all about???
they have got to be the dorkiest looking 3 guys i have ever seen in my life……..lmao……i think just having their pictures posted should be punishment enough….i am sorry ….i cannot stop laughing at them when i look at their pictures….lol
Plain Creeps are what they are. They would not like it if someone broke in to their house…Im sure they will just get a slap on the wrist though and be turned back in to society with the restt of the idiots we have walking the streets. Lock them up and throw away the keys..
