OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Neal W. Soper, 68, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. He was born Oct. 4, 1944, the son of Keith and Vera (Uhlin) Soper.
Neal graduated from Bucksport High School in 1962 and joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He was employed for many years at Kmart, Bangor, and later at Control Devices, Standish.
Neal is survived by his best friend and wife of 33 years, Marcia (Stone) Soper; brother, Gary Soper; and sisters, Ingrid Swenson and Kris Quigley. He is also survived by Marcia’s sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Paul Fergus and Judith Matthews. Their families and many special great-nieces and great-nephew held a special closeness to Neal.
Neal will be remembered for his great sense of humor in dealing with a debilitating rare muscle disease, IBM, during the past two years. Special thanks to his caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care, who made each day easier.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Donations in Neal’s name may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
