MERRILL, Maine — State police said that icy roads early Thursday morning contributed to two separate crashes in Aroostook County.
Sgt. Josh Haines said that the first accident took place just after 6:30 a.m., when Jennifer Bustard, 21, of Merrill was westbound on Route 212 in Merrill.
She struck a patch of black ice, lost control of her 2006 Pontiac and veered off the roadway.
Bustard was wearing her seat belt and suffered minor injuries.
Her car had major front-end damage, according to Haines.
Trooper Tim Saucier investigated the crash.
Another accident took place at 11:30 a.m. in Westfield when Ralph D’Angelo, 66, lost control of his vehicle on black ice while headed south on U.S. Route 1, Haines reported.
D’Angelo’s 2007 Dodge Ram truck crossed into the opposing lane, went off the roadway and rolled onto its side, according to police. Passers-by assisted D’Angelo and got him out of the vehicle. He was not injured in the crash and was wearing his seat belt, Haines said.
The truck was damaged on the passenger side.
