SOUTH PORTLAND – Richard Arnold Dubovy, 86, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. He was born July 18, 1926, in Portland, son of Leo and Elise Dubovy.
He attended Portland schools. Richard achieved the rank of seaman first class in the U.S. Navy; serving during World War II from July 19, 1943 – March 1946 and participated in the battle of Okinawa. He retired from Shaw’s Supermarket as a meat cutter. He liked the outdoors, square dancing, traveling, carpentry and animals.
Richard was predeceased by his father, Leopold Zajicek Dubovy; mother, Elise Borst Dubovy; brother, Robert Edward Dubovy Sr.; and sister, Evelyn Christine Dubovy Beaulieu. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Dubovy; son, David Dubovy and wife, Sandra, and grandchildren, Emily and Molly Dubovy; daughter, Debra Denbow and husband, Michael; several nephews and nieces.
Services will be held in the spring. Arrangements are under the guidance of Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
