CASTINE, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage will give the commencement address at Maine Maritime Academy’s graduation ceremony this spring, according to a news release from the college.

The announcement was made during the MMA Board of Trustees meeting Friday morning. Captain Robert Peacock II, chairman of the board, said the academy is honored to host LePage at its 70th commencement.

“Gov. LePage understands the value of an MMA education and the impact our graduates have on maritime industries, the global economy and especially on the economy of the state of Maine,” he wrote.

Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, at the Academy’s Castine campus.

Last year, LePage addressed the graduates of Thomas College in Waterville and Kaplan University in Portland. In 2011, he delivered an address at his own alma mater, Husson University, in Bangor.
