HERMON – Dr. James L. Meiczinger, 69, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, died unexpectedly March 2, 2013, at his home. He was born April 25, 1943, in Ithaca, N.Y., son of William and Elizabeth (Burgess) Meiczinger.
Dr. Meiczinger graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1967. He began his nearly 50 years of practice at Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital, Augusta. In 1971, he and two partners established Penobscot Veterinary Hospital, Bangor, where he practiced until his death. He was a member of the American and Maine Veterinary associations. During his children’s school years, he was a member of Hermon School Board and coached Farm League and Little League. Dr. Meiczinger loved gardening and watching the Red Sox.
He was predeceased by his parents. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Linda (Bourque) Meiczinger of Hermon; four children, Jeffrey Meiczinger and wife, Karen, of Hallowell, Terrence Meiczinger of Nashua, N.H., Lesley Thompson and husband, J.R., of Brewer, and Todd Meiczinger of Hermon; special granddaughter, Charlotte Thompson, the light of his life; brother, Ronald J. Meiczinger and wife, Joyce, of Bayonet Point, Fla.; two nephews and one niece.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Private services and interment will be held.
